'16 KS DT Alexis Johnson (UT commit 6/16/15)

He manufactures yards no doubt but he also will rush the play which doesn't allow the play to develop. Ever wonder why Kamara looks to have better blocking? He runs the plays at the tempo they are designed for.

Watch out people will think you're saying Hurd sucks

Works both ways. Jalen also doesn't get most of the yards that other running backs get. He's not patient enough to let the blocking develop.

Maybe that's because he's so accustomed to having defenders in the backfield for so many of the plays.

I can't remember how many times this year I've seen him have to fight just to make it back to the line of scrimmage.

The forced fumble vs Oklahoma is an extreme example of this.

How come Kamara hardly ever has that problem when he's in? Oline like him more?

“i ain’t taking no more visits. I’ll be there (at tennessee) in a month,” said johnson, who’s ranked the nation’s no. 15 overall junior-college prospect and no. 1 juco defensive tackle in the 247sports composite for the 2016 class. “i feel even better about my decision. I’ll be there in a month — january 10 — so i’m looking forward to that.”

the 6-foot-4, 297-pound johnson — who was accompanied by several family members on the visit — said his latest trip to tennessee lived up to his expectations, and he admitted he “had a little more fun” there over the weekend “than i did on the previous visits.”

he said the highlight of the trip was attending his first game at neyland stadium — the vols’ 53-28 win saturday against in-state rival vanderbilt — and he admitted he was impressed by the game-day atmosphere. “i couldn’t even hear myself think,” johnson said.

“we watched the vol walk,” johnson said. “the vol walk was crazy — all the fans swarming the players and everything. We ate a lot — a whole lot. I hung out with some of the players.”

“we sat down with coach strip and we talked football — watched some plays and everything like that,” johnson said. “he likes the fact that i’m an every-down d-tackle. I can stop the run and pass-rush on third down.”

vols head coach butch jones took the opportunity to tell johnson that he’s eager to add the jonesboro, ga., native to tennessee’s defensive-tackle rotation. “he was just telling me how excited he is about me and everything,” johnson said.

“i think next year we’ll compete for a national championship,” he said. “the whole team plays with passion, and the defense plays with a lot of passion.”

We have been crying for years now that we have no d-line.

Dry those tears cause boy do we have one now.

Regardless of which team you support, you should be impressed with Ralph Webb, but only a moron can't see that Hurd is better.

I agree, both are good players but Hurd is special. He will have a great pro career barring injury.

May be a dumb observation but maybe it is because he is so tall, the defense can see him, he cannot hide behind the line before he hits the crease.

Being able to 'hide' helps Webb also.

Kamara runs different plays under different down and distance situations than Hurd. Hurd gets hit behind the line of scrimmage more than any back I can recall.

Doesn't help that the defenders are already in the backfield at the handoff.
