'16 LA DT D'Andre Christmas-Giles - (Former UT Commit 8/29/15)

This class won't even break top 30 in the end.... very disappointing ... also, please stop with the "its just a down year" crap... funny, I seem to see the same 5-6 schools every year in the top 10 in recruiting classes and they seem to never have a "down year" in recruiting. Orange colored glasses denial. Used car salesman is fading and kids are getting hip to the jive... here's to hoping we close hard on some kids, especially with the momentum we seem to be having as a program and kids are still leaving left and right... something is not right.

It's bad yes... but it's not THAT bad.

Per P Fort

Defensive tackle D'Andre Christmas-Giles decommitted from the Vols as he had a number of other offers come in over the last few weeks. But, it could have been the LSU offer that was the tipping point for Christmas-Giles. Ole Miss offered as well and visits to Texas and TCU have played a part as well.

He will regret his decision. TCU isn't getting him prepared for the league. Texas and LSU won't have their current head coaches by the time he graduates. Stripling has already proven he can coach lesser talent and is now showing what he can do with elite talent.

Don't kid yourself...he'll be just fine regardless of where he goes.

Really? Texas isn't producing NFL talent in recent years and Strong has no support from the administration. LSU and its defense took a huge step back this year after Chavis left. Good coaching is often the difference in a first round or fourth round grade.

This is sort of uncharted territory for Butch since he's been here. Losing this guy and Kongbo. (I know Kongbo's not gone yet but appears doubtful he sticks ). Wonder if this caught Butch by surprise or if he suspected this might happen and still dropped the GA DE anyway?

It was reported at the time that Okonya was dropped because his senior film was subpar. Apparently he didn't progress like the staff wanted. It has nothing to do with anyone else.

Okonya was simply not good enough for the staff. PERIOD.

My guess is the Jordan Smith thing is the biggest surprise for Butch

Oh well, on to the next one. No wonder Butch was talking about how he has aged since he got here. Then again, so have the rest of us.....

It would be hilarious if Les were offered a HC gig elsewhere and took it, forcing LSU to scramble for a new coach.

I wouldn't say never, but the chances of another school offering $6-7m a year is pretty slim at 62.

I find it hilarious that the board is so concerned about this turn of events when the majority of the folks on here thought UT was a bunch of idiots for offering him early.

I think when a kid commits before he has even seen the campus, coaches realise it's an unusual recruitment.

I recall reading that the staff decided to shift some resources from Fl to LA and make it a bigger point of emphasis. I wonder what impact this experience will have on the future of that initiative. Must be frustrating to identify a kid much earlier than everyone else and then get scooped by the in state school.

Maybe next time they wait longer to take the commitment to keep their interest more under the radar.

Who knows-- Bama might poach him at the last minute... or LSU might rescind his offer... or an eagle might swoop in with a bag full of cash... or he might suddenly decide UGA is his dream school. It's not a done deal till the ink is dry.

I think hes gone from Tennessee being his best offer by far. To having the best programs in the country knocking on his door. I think he'll way his options, and then make his choice. If he still gets on campus for his official visit who knows what can happen.

OMG! Along with the vaunted 3 star Smith choosing Florida, now Christmas de-commits?! I don't think the program is gonna make it. 2016, 2017, 2018 has now officially been destroyed. Maybe 2019 is salvageable. Thanks Christmas and Smith. I would hate to be Butch right now.
