'16 LA WR Corey Henderson (UT commit 3/30/15)

If his relationship with CZA is what is holding his commitment we can expect this recruitment to get interesting come January, lol.

Yeah, that kinda scares me too. There are a lot of big time teams starting to come at him too. His ranking should shoot up tremendously. Good thing CBJ seems to keep in regular contact with Mom. Henderson seems to like that too!

“Definitely, I will be a Vol. There’s nothing that could come up that would change that. If it does, it’ll be something out of the ordinary that would (have to) happen. But right now I’m definitely going to Tennessee.”

Coach (Butch) Jones also calls me and checks on me. He checks on my mom and things like that, that really make me feel confident on it.”

“(Azzanni) always tells me that, when I get there, I’ll be used in the slot, and he needs that guy that’s going to stretch the field. And I know for a fact that I do that pretty well,” Henderson said. “And I watch the team, how they do the play action now with (quarterback Joshua) Dobbs, and I see that they’ve been struggling with the deep ball, with anybody getting open.

“They don't really have a threat right now, and I want to come be a part of helping them have more of a threat downfield.”

He gone. He just doesn't know it yet.

Henderson has put up modest stats this year through 9 games:
* 35 catches for 354 yards & 3 TDs
* 15 carries for 42 yards
* 8 of 17 passing for 30 yards
* 2 KO returns for 9 yards
* 2 punt returns for 1 yard

While Henderson has averaged 10.1 yards per catch and 1 TD every 12 catches, his teammates have averaged 16.4 yards and 1 TD every 3 catches.

OVERALL TRAITS
Size-Strength-Speed
Is a lean and sleek athlete with very good fluid lateral agility. Lacks bulk and strength, but he has a wiry build with frame development upside. He is an extremely quick and slippery athlete with competitive speed, but probably not elite speed. He's just fast enough to create big plays.

Separation Skills
Shows the immediate pressure to force defenders out of their back pedal when releasing off the line. Is a crisp route runner demonstrating the ability to run the short, medium and deep routes required at the next level. Displays the balance, agility and quick feet to get in and out of his break, creating separation. Does a nice job running the deep fade with subtle moves and stall tactics.

Ball Skills
Splits time at QB as well and is a very good ball handler. Confident with the ball anywhere around him. This guy is a hands catcher with very good deep ball tracking ability. Can adjust to the high out of the frame throw and also handle the ball throw off the back hip while catching in stride. Will come inside and take a hit to secure a catch and demonstrates the ability to settle into soft areas of zone coverage. Almost always plucks out and away from his frame.

Big Play Ability
He is deceptively good in this area. May not consistently win foot races at the next level the way he does here, but his ability to make people miss given his size and lankiness is very impressive. He has a playmakers attitude. Is very competitive with the ball in his hands and when the ball is in the air. He is an exciting player with the ball in his hands more so than you would expect. Is at his on underneath throws and seems to show the most acceleration when tracking the over the shoulder throw which makes him a viable deep threat.

Bottom Line
Henderson is a really good player with a knack for making things happen. He must settle in fulltime as a wide receiver and may be a guy that is a really good fit on the inside as he shows toughness. Flying under the radar to some degree for power five programs.

Per P Fort

Elsewhere, Robert Gillespie was in Louisiana and stopped by to se Corey Henderson in Shreveport. Henderson has scheduled his official visit to Tennessee for the Jan. 29 weekend. But, that won't be the only visit he told us Monday. Miami and Utah are two other schools he expects to see.

I know not every tweet is about football. But sometimes these vague tweets come right before a decommit

On the offensive side of the ball, Mike DeBord was scheduled to be in Louisiana to see Corey Henderson but bad weather kept him out of the Bayou State on Sunday. As we noted in the War Room, Miami and Utah are making a run there, among others.

“at one point, i’m not going to lie, it was kind of fading,” said henderson, who’s ranked the nation’s no. 647 overall prospect and no. 100 wide receiver in the 247sports composite for the 2016 class. “the other day, when coach azzanni was supposed to be going to maryland or whatever, i was like, ‘whoa.’ that’s what made me kind of open it up on the recruiting thing.

“i really was 100 percent, but it kind of slowed me down. It kind of shook me a little. I’m still shook from it right now. That’s why i’m kind of going with my other options and seeing what’s going on.

“i didn't want to tweet, ‘i’m opening up my recruitment,’ or anything because it’s not really true with me. I don’t want to say that, because that’s a major statement — especially saying, ‘i’m decommitting,’ and that’s not what i’m ready to do. I’m not that far. But i’m looking.

“i’m coming because i am comfortable with coach azzanni. I’m not comfortable with the guy that’s going to come to replace him. That’s what separates them from (other teams), so if he leaves, it’s going to be open. He knew that was the case, and he kind of assured me that he wasn’t going to leave or whatever. Once that happened, i was kind of back at 98 percent.

“i’m not quite at 100 (percent) yet. I’m still getting there.”

when he hits the road within the next few weeks, he said, he primarily will be “just trying to see what else is out there for me.” but he knows what he already has.

“i’m never unsure about tennessee,” henderson said. “that’s one thing i always make clear with them. I’m for sure with them. I committed early, and i feel like i didn’t make no mistake. It was exactly what i wanted. Whoever comes at me, i just try to learn as much as i can about the other schools before i sign over to tennessee completely.”

This is why you have to keep recruiting. Coache's get blasted for pulling an offer or recritung a better player and then dropping someone. You never know with young kids so as you see, it goes both ways. If you don't do it the way this staff and other successful teams do, you can get left with nothing. This is why it doesn't bother me if we cull from time to time b

Does this cat have any other REAL offers from any other major programs? Considering his..uh..standing, he might want to keep this to himself.

I wondered the same thing. Rivals shows offers from LSU, Arkansas, Georgia, Miami, Arizona State, and some lesser programs. Not sure whether they're committable offers.

Is it safe to say we have used up all of our recruiting momentum the past 2 years? What are the Rivals guy reporting with regard to the recruiting stagnation over the past month?
