'16 LA WR Corey Henderson (UT commit 3/30/15)

Is it safe to say we have used up all of our recruiting momentum the past 2 years? What are the Rivals guy reporting with regard to the recruiting stagnation over the past month?

The thing that's different about this year is the previous 2 years we had a star player recruiting for us. We had Wharton, and then Khalil. This year we don't have dung on a stick helping us with recruiting.

I believe that we offered him after personally seeing him in camp. Maybe we have guys higher up the board, but they saw enough in him to offer and accept at the time.

I feel like I'm the only person on this board that likes this kid. Is everyone hung up on his ratings or something? Its been like that since the beginning. Everyone complained about taking him because of his ratings, but those who watched his film liked him.

Not me. I'll trust Butch on this. Just looks like he may not be a part of this class. May be coaches making room or may be he really will look around if CZA leaves.

You arent the only one.

Quick slot receivers who run crisp routes are ndcessary for our offense to work and our staff knows, outside of Pig, we haven't had that. Guys like Corey, Mecole, Vincent perry are going to catch a lot of footballs and score a lot of touchdowns in this offense. It's designed for the slot to have success

Kid is dumb to commit to an assistant coach. If Z doesn't get a job in this cycle the probability of him being at UT for the next 4 years is still fairly low unless he gets a promotion.

Dont understand why people dont see this. He is a perfect fit for us. I also think perry will be a very good player by the time he leaves here. Obviously mecole would be the most talented if he were to come here. This kid has an offer from tcu so to me that screams we could use him in our offense.

Aren't you a Mizzou fan?

Yes I am. Have lived in St. Louis since '85. My pops is a UT alum and drilled into my head at a very young age "Go Vols!" Mizzou is the adopted home team. I root for both all season, with the exception of one Satuday a year.

In case you were wondering, That Saturday I'm wearing orange.

I'm not concerned about his rating but I'm also not impressed with his numbers.

Henderson finished the season with 42 catches for 434 yards (10.4 avg) & 3 TDs while his teammates totaled 106 receptions for 1,332 yards (12.6 avg) & 18 TDs. He also tallied 64 yards on 17 carries (3.8 ypc) for a team that averaged 5.7 ypc.

Even though I know HS stats aren't the most important thing when it comes to evaluating a prospect, we have commitments from two receivers with mediocre numbers this year (Brandon Johnson had just 20 catches for 237 yards & 3 TDs.) I wouldn't mind taking a chance on one or the other, but both? Of course, I know nothing about these players outside their stats & a bit of film; our coaches certainly have a lot more to go on than I do.

Henderson plays QB as well if I'm not mistaken. And right now, it looks like we can take them all, b/c we have about 7 spots left and not many on the board. Also not many WRs to replace them with... Hardman, Corley.. thats about it and both will be tough to get.

Henderson saw a little action at QB this season, completing 8 of 17 pass attempts for 30 yards.

IMO, Nate Johnson is a significantly better prospect than Henderson or Brandon Johnson and I really wish we'd gone harder after him.

Could be that opposing defenses key on him because they recognize how talented he is.

That could be true, but SEC-caliber skill players tend to shine and put up big numbers at the HS level; we've signed very few QBs, RBs or WRs over the years who didn't do so.

His modest stats don't mean that Henderson won't be a good player in the SEC, of course, but HS production has to be factored into a prospect's overall evaluation.

Denarius Moore is probably the exception, but he had a very lackluster high school career...
Seems like Victor has the size and speed to be special in college. Now if we could only figure out how to throw the ball downfield....

Perry is going to be an absolute steal IMO.
