'16 NC OG Landon Dickerson

How do you rationalize that??? You don't pass on a 5* OL in hopes that a 3* will work out in 2-3 years. If you do, the talent of the squad decreases.

But if you think Tatum could eventually be the better player, then you're not decreasing your talent. Neither will come right in and win a job, so the long term view is really the only one worth worrying about for offensive lineman.

Guards dont leave early. Only tackles. Because even the best guard won't be taken until the 2nd or 3rd round. Robertson and Thomas will be here as seniors.
That's not true at all. Guards don't get taken quite as early as Tackles, but it's not uncommon at all to see a few go in the first round. Furthermore, just like with Poutasi, many OT's are taken with the likelihood of moving them to Guard.

The Titans drafted Bama's OG Warmack at No.9 overall, IIRC, a few years ago.

You don't pass on elite OL. Butch is not passing on Dickerson.

if byrd, warrior, kongbo and brown all want to be vols, yes he will.

maybe just maybe cbj & crew made their own evaluations and they don't see dickerson as an "elite ol". good but not elite. crazy, I know

Once again seaoforange...Tatum is a Tackle..Dickerson is a Guard.

Yeah it looks that way. But most of our lineman bounce all over the place. You never know how these guys are gonna develop or what plans the coaches have in mind.

None of us thought Coleman Thomas would have spent a whole year at tackle.

None of our current guards are any more of a tackle than he is. Maybe Jack Jones, but they are pretty similar to me.
Exactly. In fact, I see Dickerson as a 5* full-grown version of Jack Jones. Jones probably still needs another full year in the S&C program to get up to SEC level size. He looked like a Freshman in that regard. Dickerson looks like he's already a Junior.

Could easily play OT or OG. That's why I say he could conceivably beat Hall out for the RT job at some point next season. Hall beat Kendrick out halfway through the season. No reason Dickerson couldn't make a strong case for himself, there.

Jeez..I want to get LD, but COME ON. That is borderline ridiculous. Dickerson is a OG all the way, and if he could beat out Hall or Jones for a position, then he is a bona fide high draft pick someday. Those two boys can play.

Not saying you are wrong, just find it odd they do not see him as elite. At All American game they do one on one drills and he did so well, that more people started noticing him iirc. I know that is not everything, but it is the starting point imo.

true just saying warrior, byrd and dline is higher on the priority list with what we already have committed at ol. I think if brown or kongbo go elsewhere they will take moss over dickerson. would love to be able to take everyone but cbj wants to keep as many spots available as possible for a monster class in 17

Someone start a thread on which players Butch will "process" to make room for 2017 studs.

I'll say: Ray Raulerson, Jakob Johnson, Q Dormandy, Gavin Bryant, JaQ Blakley, Brandon Johnson, Zac Jancek,

You do know some 3 star tackles end up better than 5 stars.

I think we would absolutely take him if Kongbo or Brown didn't want in. He's saying if both want in, especially with our depth in the interior line and the 3 lineman we already have committed, they would be takes first.

I disagree. Although if Dickerson doesn't come here we will never know if Butch truly passed on him. I don't think he would considering how important the OL is.

In past years? Sure.

But we're now finally at the point where we don't need true freshmen to come in and play immediately. As a result, the staff can take a chance on Tatum over Dickerson if they feel Tatum, though not as good as Dickerson right now, has a higher ceiling and will be the better player 2-3 years from now.
Lol. I'm not talking about Tatum. I'm talking about the converted tight end that we're taking as a tackle.

Just because he's a 5 star doesn't mean he could beat out Hall or Jones next year. If the coaches thought he could do that I would think he would be at the very top of our board. He would have certainly got an in home visit from Butch. It's my understanding that didn't happen.

It's not like I'm trying to be anti-Dickerson or anything. He could end up being awesome. But I don't think we're doomed if we don't land him.

Hall will slide outside. Dickerson would have to sit behind Robertson and Jones for a couple of years barring injury to those guards or one to Thomas at center then Robertson might slide to center.

Not saying we need him to play immediately but its nice to have a quality backup at those interior positions and to have competition there as well.

Landon Dickerson - Yahoo! Sports

So we should just ignore rivals when it ranks him #1 at his position and the #43 player overall?

https://rivals.yahoo.com/usf/football/recruiting/player-Marcus-Tatum-164410

And then we should ignore Tatum not being ranked at all at his position right?

So we shouldn't trust rivals and espn, even though they are the gold standard according to you?

We are not doomed if we don't land LD. But it sure is nice having high quality depth at the OL position. Depth is a huge key to winning championships.

That is the thing, every team has an injury, and most lineman (OL and DL) need to learn (can play just not start) from older guys that have been in weight room and learned play book.

I feel pretty good about our depth on the oline going into next year. Dickerson would make it outstanding, but I don't see guard as a weakness on our roster at all. Lots of young talent with super high ceilings.
