The first thing I thought of when listening to saban at media days was, how could anybody want to be coached by this guy when they have so many other options? He's the most boring sounding cry baby I've ever heard.

I've thought the same thing. He always sounds like a crotchedy old bastard. I have no idea how he connects with 17-18 year old kids so well.

IF that ever happens

Bama loses games they shouldn't like everyone else (4 losses in 2 yrs, 9 in last 5) but when he faces a team with close to equal talent, he's average.

He's the best CEO of a program and a great recruiter but not a gameday coach. If recruiting services are accurate, they should never lose, yet they do when they face similar talent. Once he couldn't over sign everyone else, the playing field is getting closer.

Saban: "truth is, I'm a hateful SOB, and I could care less about a living soul. But I win, and you are the best. Play for me and you get championships, then you get paid. This is big boy ball now. It's time to be a man, or go somewhere else where you can still play like a boy. I could care less."

My theory about Alabama is that Saban got about every ounce of potential out of those early top-ranked classes as possible. Those guys were hungry to help Alabama get back on top and Saban was hungry to prove that he was still the best coach in CFB. The result is 3 national titles and a long reign of dominance.

But now the entire roster is full of guys who stepped on campus in Tuscaloosa expecting to win championships rather than wanting/needing to win championships, and there's a big difference...and it's something Saban will never really be able to replicate again.

The same problem will pop up at Ohio State over the next 3-4 years if they continue having success, and we'll have the same problem here if the 2014 or 2015 class takes us all the way.

That's why I think program rebuilds tend to overachieve so quickly and before they're really "due" on paper based on their roster, but they also begin a slow descent shortly afterward because there's no way to replicate the drive and motivation of that first core group of players that rebuilt the team.

I've felt really good about our chances of flipping Walker for a while now.

You've really done it now.

co-sign. Alabama is now recruiting a different type of blue chip prospect than they used to. There is a sense of entitlement to guys who go to Alabama. All of them expect to win national titles and get picked in the first round. I think thats why they've struggled the last couple of years eventhough they've had #1 recruiting class after #1 recruiting class.

I think the 5 star guys we've attracted the last couple of years, Kahlil McKenzie, Jalen Hurd, etc., coulda gone to Bama if they had that kind of attitude. But I sense a hunger in them to prove something. They don't expect to be handed greatness. They look like they want to earn it. Thats why I'm confident we'll be good the next couple of years.

Question in regards to this. Now, we are getting the hungry ready to win guys. If things go well how do we avoid and who's to say we don't end up in the same situation as Bama is in now? I hope we have that to worry bout I'm just wondering how we could avoid it

Agree with this.. I was listening to TJ Yeldon at media days he was saying he was a freshman when they won the NC the core group upperclassmen are gone that's the core guys that won championships there.. The new guys jus expect it to happen.. There has to be a core group hungry to get there again and again..

Yeldon fits this conversation perfectly. Didn't he commit to Auburn after they won the national title, then flip to Alabama after they won it the next year.

I hope we have a run like Bama has had under Saban and have to deal with our players expecting to win championships and our "bad seasons" being losses in the playoffs, etc. Sustaining success year after year is admittedly difficult but much better than the alternative.

We did this already. The early 2000s teams were loaded with talent and underachieved.
