He has another year to prove himself worthy of playing football for the mighty Vols. As of now, he is still a Vol Commit and should be treated like one until his offer is pulled. Best of luck to the kid.

Young stupid people do stuff like being drunk in public, peeing on a building, or even smoking a joint. This kid is borderline thuggish. I don't want this cancer anywhere near the program.

Darel is an outstanding person. I hear he feeds the homeless 175 times a week. He's apparently saved 20 kittens from trees in the past 2 hours as well!

My point is that you don't personally know. I don't either. Tales are tales, rumors are rumors. He could have pissed off a bunch of people in town and everything he does gets overblown and exaggerated. I know you've had your haters on the board, I like reading your posts. However speaking in certainty about a situation you don't know for a fact isn't the way to go about in my opinion. Darel could or couldn't be a "thug" but I'm not sure, and listening to a disgruntled person who heard from someone who heard from someone who saw Darel do something isn't what I'm going to do.

The people that posted in this thread with "info" never gave a direct fact, they have info they "heard". Rumors from a town that hates him are not fact. If some facts come out I may change my stance.

Without reading through the thread I remember hearing "he won't play football in this town again, blah blah blah". Guess what? He's on the Powell team and the one interview I heard from their new coach spoke positively of Darel. Go figure someone not from the community has something positive to say about a potential future VOL

I think you need to go back and read the thread as there were several first hand accounts witnessed by some of the posters on here (e.g., the fight he had with the head coach last year, being suspeneded multiple times, abandoning the basketball team and not botheing to tell the coach, etc.). Granted some of the info was heasay, but there were plenty of facts shared that were not just opinions.

You voice several misconceptions. Powell fans do not hate DM. They would love to see this kid become a team player after several efforts to help the kid. The kid has been a cancer to his football and basketball team and it is all about him.

Yes, the new coach is trying to help him again since the new coach knows that no one would be able to block the kid at DE. The new coach sees wins vs. losses. Everyone hopes he can work a miracle but few doubt that he will and possibly loose his team in the process. The kid has all of the potential in the world but has no work ethic. it is all about him and his team is tired of it.

At this point, as a UT fan for several decades, if he has received an offer from Bama I hope he takes it and they sign him. It will be their waste, not ours.

Getting on here and blasting Powell fans for what you think they don't know is hypocritical. Powell knows this kid and are tired of his attitude.

You need to ask other Knoxville area coaches if they might be interested in taking him. You could ask other Knoxville area coaches if he has asked about transferring to their programs and what the reaction may have been.

We will wait for your investigative report since you only state the facts.

A lot of these 1st hand accounts were actually all posted by you. Not saying if they are true or not, but most folks won't take what a random poster says on a message board as the truth unless Callahan, Matthews, VQ, or someone in the know states it. I'm more less waiting to see what plays out with the kid. Obvious talent, just needs to buckle down and realize the opportunity in front of him.

Correct, they were posted by me because I witnessed them and I wouldn't qualify myself as a random poster. Not sure why anyone would discount 1st hand accounts and are waiting for someone "in the know", but nevertheless, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I think most of us are cautiously optimistic that history doesn't repeat itself and as you say, he realizes the opportunity in front of him.

Right and I don't have a problem with you posting, I actually enjoy any sort of firsthand updates. The problem is, I personally have no idea who you are, if you're even from Powell. Everyone seems to think me and a few other posters are just dumb for not believing stuff posted on a message board on the Internet. My personal thoughts are if you are credible in my mind (a few on here that posted facts about prospects before they committed, or a writer for VQ/247/Scout) it's a sure thing, if not then it's not. Nothing against you really unless you threw random slanderous adjectives like others did. Idk why everyone is in freak out mode at this stage of this process with him not even going for his first day of Jr year yet calling him a thug and or whatever other derogatory terms they could think of.

For the record, I live in Powell and have a son on the football team and have watched countless practices and have been to every game for the last 5 years. Also, for the record, I have never called Darel names other than saying he was lazy. I just post what I have personally witnessed the last 3 years with him and readers can either believe it or discount it, but with multiple posters saying basically the same thing, you would think it would make us credible. I understand why most (including myself) are hesitant to believe what everyone says. However, in this situation, it has been multiple people saying the same thing for three years. Nobody has ever contradicted what was said other than saying we were bitter or somehow out to get Darel. The comments have been extremely consistent - granted, some with more vile than others. Where there is smoke, there is usually fire and this has been smoldering for a while.

I will continue to post his progress (or lack thereof) throughout the season for those that are interested.

Yeah I've probably been an ass to some you in the past and I do apologize if I did. I just can't stand the posters that don't know the situation saying he's a "thug" or whatever. It bothers me a lot actually that some posters would try at any point to degrade any person who is listed as a commitment (on sites besides rivals) at all. It's the negative world we live in today. I'll look forward to more (hopefully positive) updates. I still feel bad for the kid living in a community in which a lot of people don't like him.
