'16 TN ATH Darel Middleton (Tennessee signee)

Again, DM made his bed and he will lay in it. He will suffer the consequences of his actions and it will affect him for the rest of his life. However us mulling over his racketeering and thuggish schemes, childish behavior etc is stupid.

Please let this thread die.

You're just as guilty as anyone. You said "thuggish schemes"

This kid reminds me of a kid that used to play at Oak Ridge that went to Alabama and got kicked out Shaun Bohannon. He was a great player and athlete he just always seemed like he ways always intitled to something. Middleton seems to be heading down the same road.

I played with Shaun at ORHS. He was very humble & worked hard. He never quit or walked off the practice field. He was the heir apparent to Shaun Alexander at Alabama, but had some fumble issues in his first start (against UCLA I believe) and that really set him back. I don't think that your comparison to Middleton or comment being entitled are fair or valid.

You know what really gets old? We keep calling these young men kids. They're
young men. They should act like young men.
They should be treated like young men. When we quit treating them like kids they may learn to act like young men. They might learn to say yes sir to their teacher, their coach or whatever adult they bump into at school, church or the darn grocery store.
A little dose of Scared Straight might wake this young man up so he'll quit acting like a punk, brat kid.

Agreed. It's easy for a bunch of keyboard warriors to sit behind a monitor and trash a kid who has made some mistakes in his life.

Every single person on this board, including myself, would not be able to handle the constant bashing people have been saying about Middleton. I can't imagine being in high school and having pages of people that never met me constantly saying terrible things about me. Saying he needs to mature or has his demons is completely fine, but calling him a punk, thug, and all the other names in this thread is uncalled for and ridiculous. The ones saying that are the real thugs and punks.

The mods need to do their job and clean this whole thread up or delete it all together because this is an ugly side of the vol fan base and people in general.

If it looks like poo, if it smells like poo, it's probably poo. But, in all seriousness, I've seen very little "thug" or "punk" comments. Most have been reports of what he has done, in regards to his team. The ones that have reported what he has done, the ones that are close to the Powell program have been attacked for posting those events.

Most of the posts on here have described his behavior. Only one or two used those words. I have seen those words more frequently to demonize those telling the facts. If you don't like the facts about his behavior then too bad. When you go thru 2 basketball coaches and 3 football coaches maybe the problem is the kid.

Hope he finds his way somewhere. The kid is a great talent and needs to get his act together.

Those words are very common on the last page. I don't care how he acts, saying he acts or is a punk, brat, baby, and all the other words people have said about him is pathetic. Someone said they would see him in a correctional facility. There is no need for that kind of attack on a high school student.

Also, I know players that have acted a lot worse than him that have gone on to be successful players and people.

Fair enough . Would you offer this kid a scholarship?

Yes, in a heartbeat. There is no doubt in my mind Butch would turn him around if Middleton made some strides his senior year from a character standpoint.

Why risk it? From what I've read in this thread, he has plenty of talent, poor attitude, doesn't like to practice, and has a problem with authority. Sounds like a headache.

I don't know what the kid's options will be going forward, even if "the lights do come on". From what I understand, he's already been denied a transfer request. He may have to go to a private school. I'm not sure whether his financial situation will afford him with that opportunity. I guess he could go to a private school that offers scholarships but not sure that's a possibility given his track record. He may have literally flushed his football career down the toilet.

He is still young and has time to grow up. There are many vol greats that had terrible attitudes, a good leader can fix all those problems.

If he keeps acting like he is, he isn't going to be able to play anywhere, but that doesn't mean there is no hope for the kid.

You want a cancer to kill the chemistry on the team? It only takes one guy to wreck a team. Look at TO with the cowboys. There are players just as talented with better attitudes, especially at TE and DE.
