'16 TN ATH Darel Middleton (Tennessee signee)

And, from what I understand, he's not nearly the talent that big brother is. It's amazing what having to work for something does for your character.
Yup, Devon certainly wasn't blessed with the same physical attributes as Darel. Shame that Darel doesn't have the same drive or work ethic.

That's false. You have to have guidance to take the steps. Marlin Lane and Howard wouldn't be here if Dooley was still the coach. Rogers probably plays all 4 years if Butch was here.
That isn't nearly as false as expecting guidance will fix Darel. He's had plenty of guidance. You can't help someone who doesn't want help and doesn't think he needs help. No amount of "guidance" will do any good until he recognizes he has a problem and is willing to accept help.

I think everyone knows that out of 4 or 5 ex-coaches he had some quality leadership. I truly do feel sorry for the guy because I've seen this movie several times before and it doesn't end well.

Just to play devil's advocate...Sometimes it takes the right leadership to make someone realize they need help. This is especially true of teenage males. Often time kids that break down or give up easily need a role model to show them that it is worth it to stick things out, even when they get difficult.

I hear what you are saying, but let's be real here. He's been through 4 coaches that have all kicked him off their teams. I don't think leadership is the problem. It's tough to "stick things out" when he keeps getting booted from teams.

He should join the military.

He should join the military.

By all reports I've read, he would either not make it through boot camp, or get kicked out during schooling.

*He seems to need a more buddy-buddy nurturing leadership...not an in your face, beat you down form of leadership.

Wise move to Oak Ridge. Hopefully the coaches there won't hold him back. Someone just let this baller do his thing.

No one was holding him back at Powell. He was his own problem.

If he gets kicked off the team at Oak Ridge will you admit that the problem is not the coaches but the kid?

Coaches just wanted him to take some reps at TE, and he went all Keyshawn Johnson- I'm a motherflucking WR and so on

The intent is to go to Oak Ridge, and the Middleton brothers were on the sideline "observing" practice in street clothes on Thursday, but as of yesterday they weren't yet enrolled at Oak Ridge, according to a source very close to the OR program. The intent is there to do so, but they have to physically move in to the OR zone before they can enroll at ORHS and become part of the team and ask the TSSAA for immediate eligibility. Word I am hearing is that it is going to be from a few days to several weeks before they actually physically move to the zone.

I hope Joe Gaddis and his staff can do Darel some good. He had every chance he deserved and then some at Powell, and regardless of what some try to infer, the Powell coaches went well over and above what they by all realistic expectations should have in trying to help him.

Neither Joe Gaddis nor Aaron Green are going to be able to help him until he decides that he is not special, and that he is expected to behave and act like every other member of the team.

Coach Gaddis is getting a good kid in brother Davon. He'll be an asset to the program from the first second he steps on to the field.

Made is debut at Oak Ridge practice on Wednesday.

"This was totally out of the blue," said Oak Ridge coach Joe Gaddis, who said that Middleton is enrolled, cleared to play academically and is living in Oak Ridge with his mother.

"We faced him last year. He obviously has tremendous talent, athletic ability and size — and he can run. Defensive end is probably where our need is greater, but he will also certainly play wide receiver and has the ability to come down tight if we need him to."

"I basically quit," said Middleton, who will wear No. 99 for the Wildcats.

"I had to get a new start."

I really do hope that Darel turns it around, but I did laugh when he said he "basically quit".

It's hard to say you have quit when everybody in the free world knows you have been booted for the third time.

And even so, what does it say for a prospect who admits he quit on his team?

Final words on him. He's moved on. Hope he and his brother, Davon, have a great two years under Coach Gaddis, graduate from ORHS, and get an opportunity to play college football.
