'16 TN ATH Darel Middleton (Tennessee signee)

His first step isn't great yet, but his incredible size and hustle on some plays really show what kind of player he could end up being at UT. Hope he stays on track because he could be a star with some technical work with Stripling

Agreed. Let's just get him enrolled, and everything else will work itself out. Him and Gooden would be a sick tandem at DE.

My guess is he's being told what he wants to hear whether that's TE or DE. This kid is rare and a must get pending he qualifies. Off the field concerns or not

We once had a kid at TE named Dustin (Carter I think), that even in the non-TE utilization Fulmer years was able to crack the starting lineup due simply to his unbelievable ability. He made some awesome plays during his short time, but his flaws doomed him. He was off the team after his fr year. That is why I disagree with these kind of thoughts. We could afford to take a risk back in the day when talent was stacked up like cordwood, now not so much. If the kid really has his crap together, take him for sure, if not, no amount of talent is worth it.

Dustin Moore is who it sounds like you're thinking of.

I agree that back then we had more room for error, but after 2 top 10 classes(if we finish in the top 10 this year) we can take a risk on a talented in state player. The main thing to me is that he's still committed so the staff sees him as a take right now. But if he or any of our commits do something to show that they aren't the type of players Butch wants here then cut em loose.

Dustin Moore, Greeneville HS legend. He was signed to the Vikings practice squad despite his issues.

SIAP, but has his scholarship offer been pulled or has he decommitted? Why isn't he on any commitment lists? I think he'll be a Vol as long as he qualifies. I hope he can get it together because he is a special talent.

As of now he is still committed and if he stays straight the scholarship is still good. Thats the word from oak ridge.

I had moved his name off of the '16 Commit list due to the largely held opinion that his issues at his previous school would lead to UT pulling his offer. Since the school can't say one way or the other we used our VN sense to come to that conclusion. CBJ seems to recruit high caliber low distraction young men and Darel was just having so many issues that the theory fit. Now, he seems to be doing better at OR and hopefully he can stay on track. I went ahead and put him back on the '16 Commit list since her is doing better and all signs are pointing in the right direction. Still a long way to go but I think everyone is cheering for him to be successful, take care of HS, and come ball out at UT.

Get it done Darel. Do it for you.

I'm at the oak ridge game tonight. Middleton is a big boy. Moves really well. Higgins is the real deal too.
Yeah I think some people on here have a bad taste in their mouth about Middleton, but dude has Martellus Bennett written all over him to me. Big guy, surprisingly very athletic. A bit of a character, but if he can get himself under control he should be great.

Ya looks like a good athlete. Honestly I could see him playing tight end, defensive end, or even a pass rushing outside linebacker. He moves really well.

Me too man. 6'6" would be crazy for a LB in a 4-3, rusher or not, but Mississippi State has a 6'5" Mike LB so it's possible. I see TE/DE but TE would be ideal. Honestly if he could stay under 240 or so WR isn't out of the realm of possibility either IMO.

I agree. Hopefully he can just keep his head on straight if so looks like we got a good one.

Middleton will be a TE or DE in college.

I don't see his skill-set or size allowing him to transition to a LB at all. He would really have to transform his body & improve his speed to ever be a LB at the college level, IMO.

I agree just noticed him a couple times tonight standing up and rushing off the edge.

Why is Burger no longer posting in this thread? Can we get a Burger post just to bring us back down to a reality on Middleton?

Reality is there's a chance he's a Vol (if he qualifies) and he's a hell of an athlete. Pretty good reality to come down to
