'16 TN ATH Darel Middleton (Tennessee signee)

Not shown as a commit on Rivals, 247, or Scout. Looks like the staff decided to go with Devante Brooks. I don't see us taking 2 TEs this class.

Unless they view DM as DE, then that could change some stuff up.

I think he is a Hell of an athlete and would gladly take him as a DE. If the grades don't work out, I hope we can help place him in a junior college.

If this kid plays to his potential and keeps his nose clean then you find someone else's scholarship to be "picky" about.

Yeah, well the 'ifs' are not in his favor right now. Besides we already have Davante Brooks committed for the 2016 class. Doubt the coaches will take multiple TEs.

I think Middleton would be a better DE than TE.

P Fort gave an update in a Q and A

Q:Will we try to get back involved with Middleton, or has that ship sailed?

A:If Middleton is doing things the right way, on and off the field, I think Tennessee will be a player. He's done a good job since he's been at Oak Ridge and he just needs to continue that. Also, this is purely a football thought, after watching his junior film closely, I'm not sure he's a great fit in what Tennessee does at end. He didn't seem to have that burst off the line they like in guys. Maybe he's a DT, but I don't think he's a pure end.

He may be right about Middleton not being a great fit for the system at Tennessee. He plays too upright at DE and you can tell he is still trying to learn to use that leverage, but his technique is off. You can also see that hesitation off the line. It can be coached. I only base what I said off his film, which showed nothing on offense except some blocks and like two or three catches. No idea where this kid ends up but I don't think its Tennessee. Would make a great project though.

As long as he gets it done in the classroom and off the field take him and figure it out later. This isn't a kid we want sneaking down to Bama and biting us in the arse in 2-3 years.

Dustin Moore is who it sounds like you're thinking of.

Yeah, it was Dustin Moore & he was a baller. I heard he went to a Vikings tryout, made the team & then ended up quitting. Such a shame! He was the best football player Greene County has ever seen.

Just watched Middleton put up a double double at the state tournament in only 15 minutes of court time. He is an incredible athlete for his size.

Recruiting wrap: Middleton said that Alabama is his leader.

Performance: Middleton is a huge target for quarterbacks. He is tough to stop once he gets into his route. Middleton made a number of plays down field, including a long touchdown after catching the pass on a post route over the middle. It was impressive how fast Middleton was with the ball in his hands.

-Adam Friedman

Ranked #2 in performers at the Carolina 7 on 7 tourney.

I know he has had issues. But, from everything I hear about him, he is a nasty athlete.

UT commit but Bama leads...

Middleton flashed plenty at the Carolina Classic 7-on-7 event Saturday, working the middle of the field with surprisingly polished routes, showing off his catch radius in the process. After the catch, the big man showed head-turning acceleration during plenty of scores for D-Block, a squad run out of Knoxville, Tenn.

“These events help me a lot, not only my moves off the ball, but I’m coming off the ball a lot harder,” he said. “And I’m playing with a bunch of different quarterbacks, not just my Oak Ridge (Tenn.) quarterback.”

“I’m going to take my time right now. I have options, but want a little more. Not only for me, but for my mom, too. Just to see. To talk to her about it, it’s going to get bigger and bigger,” Middleton said. “I probably plan on committing after the first game of the season.”
