'16 TN CB Dorian Banks (Former UT commit)

Kinda Stupid to take a commitment for anyone 2 years out....

I think moving forward if we take a kid that early it means he is really really good. At the time of his commit I think Butch was marketing with the fans. Keeping the fans hype in recruiting while the team struggles on the field. It was also still early in TN tenure. He now has 2 years in this league to know what players he needs to win big and also realizes he is recruiting on an elite level and needs to be more picky.

it was early on and it was the staff's 1st camp. The kids were not high on quality and Banks ran a good .40x but it has been known he wasn't SEC caliber but I think the ties have been cut from what I'm hearing. Academically he isprobably headed to JUCO somewhere.

Butch will continue to do this with lesser talent early on. He's covering himself, something Dooley failed to do. He's keeping a decent prospect in his back pocket just in case the aces don't fall on the table as planed. Some of these early commits will be finding their way out of here due to the recruiting ability of our staff. It is what it is. It's not like we are throwing all these local kids under the bus. All prospects, local or not, have to realize we don't do handouts to play here. If we can obtain prospects with higher ceilings, then those higher ceiling prospects are what we need to go with. I see many on here who get kind of offensive when people criticize local talent, especially when they get "cut", however CBJ has done a great job in recruiting high level TN prospects who know what the power T is all about aka Hurd, Kelly Jr, Malone, etc.

CBJ has to do what's right for our program. Heck, just last year we turned down a 4 star DE in Ford who many thought was a great DE prospect. CBJ's got to do what he's got to do to allow us to win consistently, and this will always include turning down prospects who have potential. I just hope everyone can be respectful to players like Banks when they go a different direction.

@LilBanks22: To clear things up I'm still committed to The University of Tennessee . #GBO #VFL 🔶◻🔶◻

😶

I don't he's said anything disrespectful or gotten in trouble.

I can't speak to whether or not he's gotten in trouble or not, I for one don't remember any instances. But that's not what I was talking about.

There's a few anecdotes, and even personal tweets, in this thread that speak to his humility / likability though.

Looking back through the thread several people that have been around him do mention attitude problems. Probably a mixture of little man syndrome and people constantly saying he's not good enough. Still shouldn't excuse it though. However, I don't think it's any worse than some of the stuff KMac has tweeted. Hope he gets that tuition paid for somewhere

Certainly hope the young man gets a scholarship somewhere. He is just an 18 year old kid, they're prone to say some crazy ish.

I did get a kick though out of the story of him telling a site evaluator that he wasn't going to talk to him until he bumped his star rating :)

Yeah I was there for that. With his lack of progress and terrible attitude, he needs to get used to the idea of being in the Sun Belt or lower.

I wish they just went ahead and told him straight up they don't want him anymore.

What's the point? Everyone and their mother knows. Coaches can't talk about him by name so they are stuck with his commitment until he says otherwise or until NSD rolls around and he hasn't signed his LOI.

There's also the possibility that the coaches legitimately want to help this kid out in his "recruitment" and are guiding him through his "decommitment" until he finds another school to sign with.
