'16 TN OL Bryce Mathews (Ole Miss commit)

Met a friend of Bryce's and from what I gather we lead here

Not sure what was said, but I would take most things from him with a grain of salt. He doesn't talk bad about any school really. He finds positive things to say about all the schools he is interested in.

I really like Tennessee's chances though.

He already liked Tennessee, but seems to even more after this weekend! He recently visited Ole Miss and now Tennessee. He said he will visit Clemson next and possibly a couple of others. He may also visit Texas A&M if he has time to go to Texas. Then he will commit in a couple of months.

To Tennessee!

According to Callahan, the bigger question is where he is on the Tennessee board with the likes of Landon Dickerson and Juan Williams still out there and only one lineman spot left on.Tennessee's Oline this class. Needless to say the Vols are in good position with Matthews.

I was literally just thinking about this.

Why not take Mathews and Dickerson? They don't play the same position and we still need more OTs.

I hope it doesn't come down to that. Matthews and Dickerson are my two favorite OL on our board and play different positions. I say take one less at another position.

There is no way Mathews is not a take. You make room in this situation. I said this in another thread, but a OL haul of Johnson, Mathews, Dickerson, and Hamm would be pretty impressive. Add to that Williams and it's filthy. Have to make room, whether that is through attrition on the roster or from the current class. He good. He a take.

Take best linemen available. may be some change with commit list. Take best of the best that will sign imo

We have 2 tackles. I would love to have both but Dickerson is a future All-American/pro bowler imo.

First off, welcome to VolNation :hi:.

To your point, last years OL pretty much sealed the deal on us taking any top OL we can get our hands on. If that means we take five OL this class, then so be it. Mathews is 110% a take. Many thought this time last year he was all but A&M locked. Butch pushed for this kid for a reason. He's an in-state kid with a ton of upside at OT. IT's a no-branier IMO if he wants to be a VOL. Plus, with DeBord running the offense now you know he's going to propagate the idea of singing top OL no matter the cost.

We turned away some good players last year (M. Ford was a 4*). We'll turn away some good players this year too. It's our new reality in recruiting.

This is our next commit. We can still take 1 more OL (Dickerson preferably) after Mathews commits and shut our OL recruiting down for 2016.
