'16 TN OL Bryce Mathews (Ole Miss commit)

Word out there is we've turned down quite a bit of good players on the DL

Well, just last year we turned away for Ford and Sterling Johnson. Those two situations ended up being very public. We also turned away the DE from Oregon either last year or the year before (think it was '14, can't remember for sure though). Like Johnson, he told someone in the media he tried to commit to us but we wouldn't accept his commitment. He ended up at ASU IIRC.

Aside from those that went public public, we seemed to rather suddenly stop recruiting D.J. Johnson who had named us leader earlier in the process. There was also a DT from NC last year (Quentez Johnson or something like that) who had us as his leader for a while and then suddenly committed to NC State. I really believe he made that commitment because we turned him down. It was also pretty obvious that we turned Emmanuel Olenga away last year.

So, yeah, long story short, I believe it.

Hamm just de committed and flipped to Auburn. Making room for Mathews. He will commit to UT within 2 weeks. Wait for it...

I remember Leb flipped his ish when we turned down the DE from Oregon you're referencing. Now we've got about 5 DE his age or younger that are better

I think the visit with Bryce Mathews was good for both parties this weekend. Tennessee continues to recruit him and if the Vols were only going to take three and both Johnson and Hamm were all in, I wondered where Mathews fit in. But, with Hamm now seemingly moving on, I think that certainly puts Tennessee in a spot to push that one over the next few weeks into July as he hopes to make a decision before his season.

Callahan seems to think we just take 2 OL. They must REALLY REALLY like what they have in the 2015 class

For what it's worth, I wouldn't say Tennessee is "all in" on Mathews right now. I think Landon Dickerson and Jauan Williams still are the top offensive linemen on the Vols' board at the moment, although Mathews probably would be a take for UT.

From Callahan on 247

That's a good reminder. The '16 class needs will change a little bit once the staff spends more time with the '15 class, and gets a better feel for what they got

IMO we take Matthews to give us 2 OL. Then we only go after Dickerson and Price and if one wants in we def take them. If both go elsewhere then we stick with 2.

Throw Jauan Williams in there with Dickerson and Price and I think you might be on to something.

I would also add the disclaimer that there could be a wildcard later in the game that no one is talking about right now (always seems to happen at a couple of positions).

Another A&M guy on 247 with a CB to Tennessee.
