'16 TN OL Bryce Mathews (Ole Miss commit)

Strictly water cooler talk between BA dads today. NO inside info at all. Feeling was:
1. Clemson
2. Ole Miss
3. Tennessee
in that order. Also mentioned was the fact that UT wasn't pursuing him as hard as the others. It did make me wonder if that could be true with us only having 17 spots. I'll be interested to see who is correct. Obviously I hope he is a Vol.

Flip that and you have the right order. All I've heard is how hard UT is after him.

Guys, don't take this to the bank because I still haven't caught up with Jason (maybe next week at camp) but I'm thinking Clemson right now with Ole Miss second and us third. I'm not sure when he's announcing and I don't think these three are a long ways apart but I'm just thinking Clemson based on a couple of people I've talked to. I would much prefer to bring good news and I'm still hoping it will be us, but as of this moment, that's what I'm thinking. If I can get with Jason before he announces, I'll bring something more concrete. Sorry!

Even if he commits soon to Clemson, this one will be far from over. Just like Drew last year. Butch gonna Butch.

Even as he was committing Richmond said he was going to continue to take visits and consider other schools. It was one of those "I'm committing...but not really" kind of deals. I don't get the feeling Matthews is going to do that.

Lol, Mathews is all Vol. He likes Clemson but he prefers to stay closer to home. This ain't the first time Butch has beat out Clemson for a recruit. All Vol fellas.

Well if we do not land Mathews then I hope we get one of Landon Dickerson or Jauan Williams to go along with Ryan Johnson.

Wasn't PFort saying/hinting in the last couple of weeks that Matthews would commit to the vols? Or am I mistaken (though rare, it is possible)?

Edit: went back a few pages. Maybe I was mistaken. I thought I read something about how we were hesitant to take Matthews while Hamm was committed. But now that he was gone, it was green light city.

No, I don't think we've slow played him. Now, did we recruit him like we did McKenzie last year? No. But he has definitely had and has a committable offer. I still need to speak with Jason so this is just conjecture on my part from talking to someone on our side of things. As I said, it's not a take it to the bank type of thing yet but just what I'm hearing. If he commits this weekend, then I really don't like where we are. I think Bryce has handled his recruitment well and, from a family that has never been Vols fans, they respect us and have gone to Knoxville on several occasions. It's not like they've snubbed us or blew us off. I just think that where we are now with the numbers the way they are, we would be happy to get him but not on the edge of the cliff if we don't. I personally would love to have him because he's a good football player and a great guy/family but this class is going to be very good either way in the big picture.

It would definitely be a real good pickup. You can never have to many big eaters especially in the SEC where games are won and lost inside the trenches. It doesn't sound to good for us to land him right especially with his family not being TN fans. With some recruits family influence is everything.
