'16 TN OL Bryce Mathews (Ole Miss commit)

Already got Ryan Johnson out of BA. Maybe Butch decides to hire dad(Jason) who is the BA OL coach to help out in some capacity at UT. Adding Bryce would then be secured Imo. Would not be a bad move at all with dads OL history IMO.

Tennessee hosted an impressive group of visitors, and it started with a trio of instate 4-star players.

Nashville linebacker Daniel Bituli was on campus today, as well as Brentwood offensive lineman Bryce Mathews.

Ronatavius Groves was a visitor today as well and the Vols seem to have some nice momentum there. They continue to be in good shape with Bituli and Mathews as well.

He has been playing things pretty close to the vest so I don't think anyone outside of friends and family really knows which way he's leaning. Obviously he has the aTm connection with his dad having gone there, but I do think we have a shot. All of this is my own speculation of course, but here are my reasons for thinking we might be a legitimate contender:

1.) Given the years his dad was a Titan and the fact that they've stayed in the Nashville area, I'm thinking Bryce has lived in TN most of his life, so he has a lot of connections to TN as well, probably more so than TX. People obviously have different ideas about what "home" is and means, but it doesn't seem at all improbable to think that TN could be "home" to him. I see this as a potential advantage for us.

2.) His good friend and linemate is a UT commit. I can see those guys wanting to play together at the next level, and it doesn't hurt that Ryan Johnson is helping to recruit him for us. This is our potential ace in the hole. Also, D. Barnett is a former teammate.

3.) aTm has recruited the OT position like gangbusters recently. That leads me to believe that he may be more of a priority for us than he is for them. If so, that will show in the way he is recruited and could work in our favor.

4.) Butch Jones.

5.) The volquest guys just dropped a "Vols are in good shape here" yesterday.

6.) Yeah, I'm sayin' it again, just for good measure, Butch MF'n Jones. If Matthews is in any way legitimately open to UT, Butch will make a serious run at him.

I hope you're right. The second and third reasons you listed were the main reasons for my optimism.

I think the longer his recruitment goes on the better it is for us. Does anyone know when he's announcing?
