Well, in all "fact"... it was one game.
I can name 10 horrible games played by a guy named Peyton Manning.
3 of them were against the Florida Gators.

He has a lot you cannot teach. 6'5" with great athleticism.
Can't really coach that,

he has a decent throwing motion.
Has decent footwork. Just like Dobbs needed and Jennings still needs- coaching. Oden needs coaching and a good weightlifting program. I don't know how he is between the ears, but...

The Pearl-Cohn kid is not even in the same universe as Oden... long-term.

Sorry to split hairs and get off topic, but you can't name 3 horrible games Peyton played vs Florida cause it didn't happen. He pretty much didn't play vs them as a freshman and was outstanding at Florida as a sophomore when he had us up 37-14 in the third quarter. He was awful when he threw 4 firsthalf picks that cost them the game as a junior and was marginal to bad, certainly not horrible, vs Florida as a senior. So, I'll give you 1, possibly can stretch to give you 2 "horrible" games Peyton played vs Florida, but definitely not 3. Just sayin.

Now back to Oden. Btw, he's a fairly significant project imo.

He is definitely a project. In my opinion, he is even further behind where Jauan was at this point last year. I think they should probably wait and see how he has improved this year before taking a committment from him. With our numbers likely tight, and if we can get a committment from JG, I think we probably let this kid slide past us.

He is a project. I was just making
the case that his upside was good and that one horrible game can't determine that ability long term.

Alex Smith who was drafted as a 1st round pick was recruited just 4 years before that as a veer Qb.
His passing ability left much to be desired at the time. 2 star recruit.

He just needs coaching. But the tools are there.

Whichever 2016 QB we land will get plenty of development time...will be behind Dobbs and two other QBs (my guess Dormady and Jones) and will most likely have Hunter Johnson coming up on his heels...think Kiffin is wondering how Butch is getting QBs to Knoxville ?

Oden is a ways down our QB board, per PFort. There's a 5.6 3* kid (Woody Barrett) that is actually higher on the board, if that tells you anything.

I wouldn't waste too much time in this thread.

Honestly I think we'll end up recruiting his brother Justin Oden ('18 class - already has an offer) harder than we are doing with Tylin. Looks like a really gifted athlete.

Why are you hung up on the 5.6 3* thing? You've mentioned it more than once now. That is only one site's very early opinion of him, and it doesn't necessarily define his abilities anymore than the 4* label defines Oden's. FWIW, Barrett is a 4*, top 200 player on 247. Just look at his offer list.

Kinda skinny, but at 6'5 if he has any athleticism to speak of I'd say he should give WR a shot. The Mike Evans/Kelvin Benjamin types are getting paid in the NFL now.

Uh, okay. I wasn't trying to be combative. I'm not the least bit hung up on Oden. In fact, my post had more to do with Barrett than Oden.

You didn't answer my original question, and it doesn't seem that you're interested in doing so, so forget I mentioned it.

He was terrible against some bad Vanderbilt teams his sophomore and Jr year. Completed less than 50% of his passes with 1 TD and 3 Ints combined. Also struggled down the stretch his senior year against SC and Vandy.

I think the problem is Barrett looks to be a pretty solid option at QB whereas Oden is a huge project. IDK that anyone is disagreeing with you on Oden (I don't see him at UT at all honestly) more so taking exception to dismissing Barrett because he is lowly rated on Rivals.

Nobody said anything about Vandy. I responded to a poster who said he had 3 horrible games against FLORIDA. It's not true and all I did was point it out.

Dormady went from 2* to 4* in one season
