'16 TN TE/LB Austin Pope (UT commit 6/15/15)

I don't usually visit the recruiting forum, but I would like to say that Grace Christian can politely suck it. Bunch of hooligans and derelicts.

More than two dozen current Vols watched him play recently.

“That’s cool for them to be here, man,” Pope said. “It kind of fuels my fire a little bit. Being out there and seeing those guys over there and they’re coming to this game to watch me. It definitely lights a fire under my tail to kick it into higher gear because I’m playing with those guys next year.”

Re: visit
I think a lot of guys are maybe taking it the week of Georgia,” he said. “So, I might be going to that one. But, I mean I’m going to every home game because I’m 15 minutes down the street.

Hurdling is a 15 yard penalty in high school now?? That is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.

No.. Just messing with nick because he's a dragon

I will hunt you down, burn your house and scatter your ashes over a porta potty.

I have no love for Clinton. I am a Hornet.

Speaking of which, OldVol has been MIA for months. I hope he's ok

Which oldvol? Oldvol from the Gruden threads?

No. Used to post around here. He's a fellow Carter Hornet and we used to touch base on that. It always concerns me when a poster we know who is older stops posting suddenly. :ermm:
Was it oldvol49? Or something close to that?

OVERALL TRAITS
Size-Strength-Speed
Excellent height with marginal bulk, but looks to possess a wiry build with room to support some needed additional mass. Displays average speed for size with good playing strength.

Separation Skills/Big Play Ability
Lacks top-end speed to be a factor in the deep seams and more an intermediate to underneath target. Needs to continue to refine and not real explosive, but displays some feel as route runner for getting open and creating some separation. Displays willing and able to absorb a hit to make a catch. Lacks great speed or elusiveness after the catch, but can be physical and work for yards.

Ball Skills
Displays good hands. Demonstrates very good body control to adjust to the ball and can extend and snatch passes thrown above his head. Can do good job timing and attacking the ball at highest point.

Blocking
Needs to continue to develop technically and add size, but displays he can be physical, flashing a bit of a nasty edge as a blocker. Can be tough to shake once he gets locked on. Will do good job of quickly transitioning into a blocker downfield when he doesn%u2019t get the ball.

Bottom Line
Pope is a good football player. Bit of a 'tweener at this stage in size and athleticism, but if can continue to add good mass to his frame and maintain/improve in areas, prospect that can be physical and productive college tight end.

OVERALL TRAITS
Size-Strength-Speed
Possesses excellent overall size at this stage. Tall prospect with adequate bulk and a frame that can continue to be developed. Flashes very good playing strength with room to continue to improve as he further physically develops. When healthy possesses above average speed for size.

Separation Skills/Big Play Ability
With combination of size and speed can threaten the seam. Needs to work on release when challenged as well as further develop to be a stronger route runner. Flashes ability to use size to shield defenders, but needs to continue to learn to use his size and strength more to his advantage. Big and can be physical, but not a real elusive runner after the catch.

Ball Skills
Displays solid hands and flashes ability to extend and snag passes over his head. Demonstrates adequate body control to adjust to passes off target. Can let the ball get into his frame at times and can continue to strength pass catching skills. Displays good concentration to catch ball in traffic.

Blocking
With size, strength and willingness to give effort and be physical, displays good upside in this area. Needs to refine placement, but when he gets hands on and drives his knees, has the strength to push defenders off the ball. Does need to watch pad level as he can play high and get stalemated, but will work to stay with blocks with enough size to wall-off defenders.

Bottom Line
Brooks is a prospect that has played on both sides of the ball and could receive interest as a DE, though his best fit at this time looks to be on offense. Prospect that brings some very good tools, but has unfortunately battled injuries. Missed his junior year with an injury and suffered an injury again in the spring that will impact senior season. If healthy he has ability as a college TE to be a good receiving target and potentially strong blocker. With a hopefully healthy return can develop into a productive if not very good college player.

Underclassman Eval
STRENGTHS: Brooks has the raw physical attributes to be a contributor on either the defensive or offensive side of the ball. Shows good hands in traffic and has solid blocking skills. He is an effort type of player that does not shy away from contact and he has the tools to develop into a solid player in the trenches. Displays range and foot speed as a TE or DE. ...
AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Needs to refine his route running and pass catching skills. Will benefit from adding bulk to his frame, which will in turn aid in his progression as a blocker. ...
BOTTOM LINE: Brooks is raw and inexperienced but his athleticism and versatility will help in his development as a player offensively or defensively.
