'16 TN TE/LB Austin Pope (UT commit 6/15/15)

Interview with Austin's coach, Rusty Bradley:

“I think he can play on either side of the ball,” Bradley told InsideTennessee. “I think offensively he’s a tight end that can line up in a three-point stance and block in the run game and execute in the passing game as well as split out into the slot and even I think line up as the backside of three-by-one as an ‘X’ receiver.

“He’s athletic, runs really good routes, has good body control, has great ball skills and catches the ball really well.”

Austin, having the other schools jump on him early, his junior film was pretty impressive but even then he wasn’t in the best shape because of how much time he missed last summer with his Dad’s health issues,” Bradley said. “So, he wasn’t necessarily in the best shape last year, but his film was impressive enough he was able to get some early offers and especially once schools started coming by and not just watching his film but seeing him in practice. I think that kind of helped things snowball, but I’ve never had a kid that it exploded like it has with Austin. I want to say he’s gotten 12 or 13 offers since May 28.”

He had a couple of less than sportsmanlike plays in Friday's game. I wonder if film review led the coaches to this action?

So what did he do to get suspended? If it was unsportsmanlike plays against GCA I would pay no mind to it. Grace isn't the most classy bunch either.

While playing his game, a stray dog ran onto the field. Pope tore it's poor little head off and ate it, trying to assert dominance. He did, but it cost him.

If that were true he would probably be my favorite recruit of all time.

It must really bother you that Grace beats Hampton in every game of significance.
They beat them to go to the state tournament in basketball year before last if I'm not mistaken. Plus if you wanna do some research Hampton actually leads the series in football. I believe Grace has only beat Hampton twice since they have been a school. Plus Grace recruits so I think Hampton gets a lot more out of what they have to work with. But thats just my opinion.

I was thinking more of recent playoff games in basketball, baseball and football.

Also, doesn't every private school "recruit"? The only way people attend a private school is if they know it exists. Outside of that, I think Grace operates in a manner that the new Division II rules won't even affect them.

Just not sure why the Grace hate. I have no dog in the fight other than occasionally catching a baseball game or two of theirs going up and down the highway. Their fans always seemed relatively mild. Not sure why they get hate.

And I just can't resist pointing out that Hampton doesn't recruit because no one ever answered yes to "hey, would you like to live in Hampton on purpose?"

First of all Hampton has never even played GCA in baseball to my knowledge. Also the year before last when Grace got beat in sub-state @ Hampton is the most recent game between the two teams on the hardwood. Kudos to Grace they did beat Hampton in the 2nd round of the playoffs last season and to their credit they did field the better team. No Grace hate here, however I do feel like they have advantages that public schools do not. That is not GCA's fault but it is what it is. Finally, the reason I made the statement that they are not the classiest bunch is simply due to a few incidents in the past, and I probably shouldn't base my view of a whole school on the actions of a few.

Grace has some diversity, so you can let yourself feel good that there isn't any white privilege worth holding your animosity. I hear some of those Grace people will even pray for you if you need it.

Now settle down, I'm just messing with you.
