'16 TN WR Nate Johnson

Kid is simply electric saw him 3 or 4 times this year, and there was nothing that came his way that he didn't catch. Kid is crazy athletic and his body control is unreal. When I spoke with him he was very excited about the offer and it really shouldn't take long for him to commit. The thing is myself and Buck Fitzgerald saw and heard of him and told the staff but he didn't have much film and only went to a few camps. He's easily the best WR in state this yr and was robbed for the Mr. Football award

Better than Higgins?? :thud:

I think so at this point due in part to his abilities such as body control and the way he gets separation on short and intermediate routes and not just deep balls. For instance against an aggressive man press vs Hendersonville/ Hillsboro the kid was held jammed etc he still ran slants curls drags and waved his hands and demanded the ball. The thing that Tee has over him os size and they're both equally athletic.

Ya I watched Tee play twice this year. You can tell he will be a good one. He also was the best athlete every game he played in. I'd say as of right now he is the better wr, given Tee some time a good coaching his ceiling may be a little higher. What do you think De1?

Me, when first seeing the offer, and then reading knowledgeable posters about Johnson...

Perhaps Nathan is good enough to overcome Azzani's coaching? Already has skills to get off coverage.....maybe Z wouldnt completely eff up his natural abilities.

Z thing is getting annoying. There were receivers open but with Dobbs as QB, the offense will focus on runs and short routes. Tough to tell how good Z is. He isn't making these kids slaw. He may be a great coach or maybe not so much, but we won't know unless Dobbs leaves or Z goes somewhere else.

I agree with you. A lot of people blame Dobbs. A lot blame Azzani. I'm in the middle somewhere. Dobbs' accuracy does have to improve. I don't think Azzani is a great coach, but he might be pretty good. He has dealt with injuries and inconsistant quarterback play.

Disagree. As do both Swain and Joey Kent. Also, de1Conely, who posts on here and works with Buck Fitzgerald in the Nashville area, shares the same opinion. Z is a hard worker, I'm sure he's very knowledgeable, but he just hasn't gotten any results. Time to look elsewhere IMHO.

A combination of those 2 and Jones' offensive philosophy explains a poor passing game IMHO. However, when former players are giving very specific critiques and are expressing concerns with our WRs' inability to get off coverage, get any separation and get behind coverage/stretch the field, I listen. Our leading WR caught 36 passes this year....21st in the SEC. And our leading WR in yardage this year had 388 yds....27th in the SEC.

What were our running stats tho?

Oh wait, we dominated. More to it

Can't disagree with the guy who discovered Founette then. My opinion is changed now

Any semblance of a toss game and we were in ATL this weekend.

I agree. But there more to the WR problems than looking at their numbers. They disappointed for sure...

With North not being a factor, can anyone honestly say we have a big time SEC WR right now?

There were also plenty of times this season when WRs dropped passes and failed to get separation from DBs. But I guess its all on Dobbs and ZA.

We weren't discussing the running game. Running game....good. Passing game....bad. 2 games with less than 90 yards passing, fully half the games with less than 150 yards passing. That's pretty much all there was to it.

Obviously nobody remembers the last few years with Fulmer, and how terrible qbs can be... Crompton, Stephens, Matt Simms. Dobbs is a good quarterback! Everyone saying "oh he's bad" oh he can't win us the east... similar numbers from Casey clausen back in the day won us an SEC championship!! And I know Casey clausen didn't get near as many rushing yards! Here are some numbers for this "bad" QB we have.

25 total TDs/5 INTs
2200 pass yds, 630 rush yds, 80 rec yds.
60% completion percentage

Dont like the kid if you want, but next season I gaurantee he will get us to the SEC championship game!! Then see if you like him at the end of next year. After next season Dobbs will have had a special career helping revive UT football. If not for him last season we do not make a bowl!! Dobbs is a good QB, and without him we probably finish this season 6-6 or worse. Then the criticism on Azzani, which I understand more than Dobbs for sure. But what happened to a year ago after Bajakian left when everyone was clamoring for Azzani to be the new OC? We have went from that to fire him, which is completely asinine. You can't be that drastic in thinking. I would understand that drastic thinking if we went 6-6 or less, but honestly at 8-4 there should not be anyone in danger of losing their jobs. Did he struggle this season coaching? At times yes he did, but he should not be in danger of losing his job at least until next season if it is bad again. Honestly though I think we go 10-2 and are in the championship game! Next season will be special.

Casey Clausen was a 4 year starter
Joshua Dobbs has started for 1 1/2 years.

Career completion percentage for Clausen: 61%
Dobbs: 60.8% so 61%

People just forget that Dobbs has been the guy for just a year and a half. Honestly I think he's done a good job, and he'll have a special senior season.
