'17 CA DT/OL Jalen McKenzie

Didn't know he had injured his knee more than once. Makes more sense now. I still think he'll get an offer and I think he'll be a part of this class.

We may only take 2 tackles this cycle. Who's spot would you like to give him, Trey Smith's or Obinna Eze's?

And no, you can't pick a random WR or K, it doesn't work that way.

If his last name wasn't McKenzie, people would flip out if he had an offer when we are in on Eze, Smith, Willis, etc.

But his name IS McKenzie. I think that is the counter point of the argument. Plus everyone in his family is really good at playing football and he is huge. I think he is 100%going to get an offer .

We have taken less talented players in crowded classes who were possibly more of a reach (three * long snapper anyone?) because of their ties to the program.

Then let's pass on those 4 and 5 stars to take a huge risk on a kid that has had two knee surgeries on the same knee. Makes perfect sense.

So answer this, why didn't Jalen McKlesky get an offer? HE'S A LEGACY WITH NICE OFFERS, HOW COULD WE NOT OFFER?!?!

So...have to ask. We haven't offered, correct? Does that mean that he could be a Vol if the family pays his way?

If above is accurate, then there might be a reason why we've not offered.

The 3 star long snapper was not a reach. We had a talented long snapper coming as a walk on the year before, and OU gave him a scholarship. We needed one, and specialists are getting offers these days.

I love this discussion!

Nice winking emoticon. You didn't win anything with me. Just don't care to have an argument over it. It's a waste of my time. I said I believe he'll be a Vol. You don't and that's fine. We both have our opinion so we can move on now.

That's not how this works here. The rest of us demand at least two pages of bickering back and forth between you two. If the mods don't have to come in and clean it up, you've done it wrong.

You must be new here.

Not new, but this time around circumstances appear to be different. Usually this discussion is had after we've offered a young man, i.e the Berry twins. Assuming that there is not an offer for Jalen, the fam does epitomize what it means to be VFLs, VFLs who presumably have the income to send Jalen to UT.

Paging the expert(s)...

Lot of sentences for not caring :wink2:

That's pretty much a slap in the face. As crazy as it seems, the experience for a scholarship athlete is not the same as a walk-on. If this were the case there would be lots of kids who had their way paid by "family members."

But Jalen McKenzie is a reach? As a legacy? With his brother being one of the most popular players to suit up in years? And him looking the part if nothing else?

Not to sound defensive but if the loss at long snapper was such an immediate need, why did we wait an entire recruiting class to pick up another kid to do the job? And the one we lost to OU was not getting an offer from UT.

Specialists are getting offers and I am honestly a fan of the kid. I've never watched longsnapper film before and, after Lovingood's, that is ALL I watch. I break down long snapper film all day, all night. Flings that acorn betwixt the legs wherever the hell he wants to, don't he?

I think the legacy culture is a really cool thing that Butch brought with him and it definitely has factored into decision making when it comes to recruiting.

First. Decaf.

Second, I have no idea about McKlesky. The kid had a good year at OSU. I'm guessing though that he wasn't disqualified because of an injury.

Now, unless one of those McKenzie surgeries was to remove the entire damn leg, you can't convince me that he has lost the ability to play football. Something also tells me that the doctors cutting on the son of the Raider's GM know a little something about sports injuries, too.

The kid is a 3* 6'5" 300 lb OT. We woldn't be taking a chance on freaking Lucas (see below). And I doubt that we are going to pass on Anthony Munoz and Orlando Pace as they re-enter the college ranks so settle down. (Speaking of Munoz, that name seems to remind me of an All-American for UT who had a few knee surgeries himself...oh and Chance Hall is relevant here, too)

UT has dropped some pretty good players late in the recruiting process lately but almost never has backed off a marginal legacy.
