'17 CA DT/OL Jalen McKenzie

Makes Cal Ripken all the more remarkable. His consecutive games streaks is possibly the most impressive record in any sport.

It's only comparable to Favre's record across the major pro sports, but probably more impressive given Ripken's position.

While the mechanics of throwing a football and throwing a baseball are similar, they are not the same.

Didn't want Dobbs throwing baseballs all spring, when he should have been working on throwing footballs.

Yep, I sometimes wonder what kind of career John Elway would have had is he hadn't played baseball.

I hope we offer him and he accepts. Athletes come back from knee repairs all the time. OLs can wear knee braces. He can be redshirted first year. If he should be EE, then he could get into our S&C program that much sooner. We know his bloodlines; bring that young man in.

If he had more game film we could make better decison. Unfortunately he hasn't played much at all in HS. Sat out a lot due to transfers and injuries. I'm not sure you can even count on two hands his HS games played

One other I'd put out there is Glenn Hall's (Blackhawks HoF goalie) 502 straight starts, over 8 seasons, without a mask, and, apparently, throwing up before games from nerves.

Hahaha. Are you comparing Dobbs to John Elway? Seriously?

D4H says it's an insult to compare that hack has been to a great mobile passer like Dobbs...

And before it starts...we all like Dobbs. We're just realists about his demonstrated passing skills thus far...and hope he improves about 10% to lead us to Atlanta.

...McKenzie has focused more on recovering from a knee injury he suffered the second play of the first game of his junior season. Now fully cleared, McKenzie can start turning his attention to recruiting more. "My knee is good, it feels really good, I'm able to sprint, run and jump," said McKenzie. "I'm ready to work out in the spring and have schools come to look at me."

McKenzie has offers from Miami, UCLA, Georgia Southern, Hawaii, Washington State and Oregon State," said McKenzie. "And Tennessee is looking to offer." UCLA is where his mom went to school and the Bruins have made a big impression on him. "I really do like UCLA, they have great academics and Coach Angus (McClure) is who is recruiting me and who offered me," said McKenzie. "They are definitely in my top five." McKenzie's top five includes USC, Michigan, LSU and Tennessee and he's confident offers will come from them this spring. "Coaches just said they want to see me workout this spring and move and more schools are looking to offer me," said McKenzie. "I feel really good and I'm ready to show what I can do."

McKenzie plays right tackle for Clayton Valley and said he'll play that again this fall but can make the move to left tackle in college. He took a number of unofficial visits when Kahlil was being recruited so he's seen a lot of schools and he's also up to speed on what the process is like.

"I'm going to take visits to UCLA and USC then LSU and Stanford, I'll camp with, then I'll probably go back and visit Tennessee again and Oregon State," said McKenzie. "Having watched it with Kahlil, I saw first hand how it goes and it's good knowing the tricks of the trade."

He's also not a slam dunk for the Vols if they offer, despite the family history. "I'm looking at it a little differently than Kahlil did," said McKenzie. "I may want to make a name for myself somewhere else." McKenzie will be back at The Opening Oakland regional, where he earned all-underclass honors last spring.

I've never understood kids saying they want to make a name for themselves. Do the things you need to do and you won't be in anyone's shadow.

Anything new on him? He's still showing 100% to UT, but thought I read somewhere recently that he wanted to make his own path and wasn't solid to UT.

Its cool if that is what he wants, worked out well for a guy named Peyton.

Think he has some knee issues. Would still be happy to get him but he's not as sought after as Khalil was.

That's an understatement. There is no buzz on Jalen at all. At this point in the process two years ago for Kahlil, Butch was arranging bucket hat pics with Peyton, Gruden, Witten and the torchbearer.
