'17 CA DT/OL Jalen McKenzie

Glad Peyton didn't think like you or he would've gone to Ole Sis....:salute:

Its cool if that is what he wants, worked out well for a guy named Peyton.

I don't believe Peyton ever said that he came to UT in order to make a name for himself. In fact, he's said on multiple occasions that, had his brother Cooper not been forced to quit football due to spinal problems, he likely would have ended up at Ole Miss.

Apparently, he has some significant knee issues that may end up hampering his playing ability. At least that has been reported in the past.

In a video posted a few weeks back he said that wasn't true and he is almost back to 100%. He is obviously trying to sell himself, but I would hate to see him start for anyone else.

I realize that, just commenting that his size doesn't automatically make him good

You're correct.....
but if you have Size & Genetics, that is a good start.... Since I'm in the cattle business I would put him ahead of the curve and on the watch list....Maybe into the "keep until proven otherwise" category.

Ole Miss was also going through an NCAA investigation. That also did not help them.

Jalen Mckenzie, Clayton Valley HS OT - Scout

Says he's bouncing back after his knee injury and recruitment is taking off. Sounds like he's not as bad as some would assume on here. Also says he hears from UT and Don Mahoney more than anyone. Just hasn't gotten that offer yet.

I never said he was bad. He has Miami, UCLA, and AZ St offers. We are just in for better ones. I just don't understand why people are upset we haven't offered. It's not like he's going to APSU. We will get our 4 or 5 star tackles and he will play for a major sports program in college athletics if we don't offer. Win, win.

I never said I was upset. Just surprised. He's a legacy, who happens to have a brother here, and a pretty good one. We've taken commitments from some lesser players already.

Okay then. Let me see if I can put this into perspective...

Didnt play as a freshman because of a knee injury. Required surgery. Played his Sophomore year showed good potential. Looking like he could develop into a nice OT. Then he injured his knee the first game of his Junior year. That requires yet another knee surgery...

At some point you've got to manage the risk vs reward in cases like this. Doesn't matter if he's a legacy. Coaches pay attention to past injuries - especially if they are reoccurring knee injuries. At this point I think it's going to take a big year from him to warrant an offer. Even then I have my doubts.

I honestly don't think he's worth the risk considering the knee injuries he's constantly been through. I'm not saying he's a bad player or anything but we're just on too many better prospects. Recruiting is a business and you take the best players available.

I believe he also injured his knee in junior high? Does that sound right to anyone else? Dont quote me on that my remembory is a little off sometimes.

Didn't know he had injured his knee more than once. Makes more sense now. I still think he'll get an offer and I think he'll be a part of this class.

Your last sentence isn't necessarily true
