'17 CA DT/OL Jalen McKenzie

Nash the thing is UT doesn't hv a plethora of OTs Tre Smith is a OG. They even put him here during the AA game. Richmond it looks is better suited inside too. Calbert when I saw him in Nashville at the camp is a OT but how much development will he need.

JMAC is a project as well. If we were talking Isiah Wilson or a no brainer like that then of course take him. I'm a big fan of Tatum from last class. I also think the Neihaus kid is going to be tough as nails. I can't see Richmond inside unless it's C. I want a mean SOB at G and he isn't mean. I agree on Smith starting off at OG but he can play OT as well. If Kendrick and Kerbyson can do it then he can if we need best 5.

Richmond is a OT, he just needs to be moved to the right side like he played in HS. Hall needs to be the starting LT. Would also like to see what we have in Ryan Johnson and Tatum this year. And agree that Trey Smith seems to be more of a fit at OG.

Agree here. Not sure why Hall is RT and Richmond LT besides recruiting promises or something. Unless it's something with run game perhaps they liked on that side

No doubt but Kendrick is not good at OT and a natural at OG the thing is sometimes teaching and training for versatility can hurt guys. He and kerbyson both were OG. The putting Thomas shows the craziness that surrounded OL coaching he was like a matador waving the cape ever snap.

yeah I agree it has to be a recruiting promise but he definitely needs to switch sides or play OG.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Kendrick was the most consistent OT on the roster, in terms of performance and health this year. He's never been a guard and isn't built like one. Skinny ankles, high calves and moves. If anything, the guard playbook a step back this past year.

I expect Tatum to redshirt this year with hopes of having him, Smith and Brooks as your long term OTs.

I agree had to be a recruiting perk but it could also be that awful number he wears too lolllll an OT wearing 51 usually never plays

You might want to do your homework Kendrick was moved to OT out of necessity and coaches were not happy with him. He was locked in at OG preseason then moved bk to OT out of need. Mahoney has Coleman Thomas who isnt built to be anything other than a C or OG at OT. Look up your info before you say "he was never" and do a fact check 1st. Also being the best on a Mahoney coached OLine 😞😞😞😞🤔🤔🤔🤔 not saying much

Would you consider Walt Wells an upgrade? A lot of instate OL seem to be mentioning as far as recruiting goes.

Not sure haven't done any research on him. I have seen guys speaking well of him. My thing is I personally wouldn't consider anyone associate director it has he poorly quality of Oline play the past 3 yrs. there has been little to no progression for guys who hv multiple starts. A major part of it was s&c program too, so I'll reserve judgement on him. I personally think you have to go get a big time guy who is very technical to fix the mess that was taught. I spoke with the former Falcons OL coach he said he personally contacted CBJ and told him that they were teaching guys bad habits and techniques. Then he said he sent some videos and drills to help out.

Do you think these bad habits/techniques are more a product of Jones's offensive blocking scheme or just poor teaching by position coach?

A little of both. I got to watch film with Russ Grim and Sylvester Croom this year. These vets taught me a lot. The first thing both told me is these cute tricky gimmick offenses are why OL guys are so far behind when they get to the NFL. They showed me college film and old Pittsburgh and then Dallas and Shannahan Denver film. Guys the stuff the spread systems are doing to haunt guys development is etrocious. Grimm said its coaching malpractice what's going on in the college game

Shanahan ran a zone blocking scheme in Denver. The architect was Alex Gibbs. They used smaller O-linemen much like Butch Jones wants to use for the zone read.

I don't disagree. I was just pointing out Denver's o-line scheme differed from the other examples. Personally, I like a power blocking scheme, but unfortunately both college and the pros are getting away from 3 yards and a cloud of dust. What drove me batty was when we needed a yard and lined up in a shotgun formation. Put a fullback/h-back/extra O-lineman in the backfield and pound the ball down the opponents throat.
