'17 CT QB CJ Lewis (Former TN commit 7/23/16)

“Earlier in the month coach DeBord told me I was number one on their list and that they think highly of me and coach Jones told me that on July 21 he would give me an answer,” Lewis explained. “I’ve just been holding out and going to other schools and visiting other schools. Then, July 21 came and coach Jones offered me that night and he told me they want me to be the quarterback at the University of Tennessee.

VQ.

Doesn't sound like the process a staff would follow if this was a "conditional"
Commitment. Sounds like the kid thinks this is a final decision without conditions

When your class is full and many of the other elite recruits are going elsewhere it may as well be Feb. Unless we start cutting some of the current recruits loose you are just about set from a numbers standpoint.

Hmmm. I wonder what Butch could do that he has done in the past to upgrade this class in the next 7 months.

How do you know, where you there (serious question btw)

Also I am sure that 8th grader has been throwing/playing Qb almost his whole life, he has only played senior year. Maybe they want to use him in "wildcat formations" idk.

Yes, I was there at the June camp. I watched him throw. He's athletic and made some decent runs. But he's not an elite QB-- not right now. Trainers and QB coaches who were there would tell you the same thing.

Feel bad the kid is seeing those negative tweets from Vol fans on Twitter. But, he said he was going to hang the tweet from Sab on his wall. I like this kid. That determination may take him places

Sab literally makes me ashamed to be a Vol fan. If we could get rid of any single fan, it would be him. That dude's sense of self awareness is so off, and he's such a tool.

Oh yeah, BOOM!

That's what many on here said it would be.

Wish I wouldn't have believed them.
Watch it become his best class. So many of the guys committed (cotman, Lawson, fant, Jackson, and several others) have high ceilings and could end up being studs. I've got faith in this staff, and I believe they are among the best in country in terms of evaluating talent

I just looked at his Twitter. Kinda made me sad. Kid worked his tail off. Camped in Knoxville multiple times because he wanted to be a Vol before the coaches wanted him to be. He did what he had to do to sway the coaches and then he gets what he worked so hard for and people are too inconsiderate to be happy for the kid and trash him. He's taking it well though and I'm glad to have a guy that went out of his way to be a Vol.

Once again, if Butch thinks he is good for the team, I am okay with it.

Go Vols and welcome aboard CJ

Nobody saw the instantt impact of Woody Quinn when he signed either

Better to have a 2* bust than a 4 or 5* imo. You are counting on those guys, guys like Quinn are a bonus if they end up being big contributors, and if they don't, big deal just cut em loose and get another schollie to work with.

Nobody said CJ is elite. This QB class in general is terrible. Not many elite arms. Davis Mills, Hunter Johnson, Jake Fromm, Tua are basically your only elite arms available on class and all are committed. So if you can't find the obvious elite arm you try out a ton of next level targets and pick your favorite for development which is what TN did. Their eyes are set on the elite 2018 arm now and hopefully Jones jumps on board

Yep

I am going to focus on the fact of how much went Into him getting this offer. I will be a big fan and pulling for him regardless of the odds against him!

Lot of QBs starting on NFL squads were not thought of as elite coming out of HS either.
