Maybe. I figured 3 backs may be possible in this class a while back. After adding Lewis to 2016, I figured 2 is plenty for 2017 as we have other needs.

Now it is possible that landing Chandler AND Akers has Kelly or CFA or both considering other options. Then sure. A 3rd back may be needed.

Why in the wild wild world of sports would Kelly or CFA consider other options? Two guys who haven't even played a down yet commit so I'm going to transfer????? That could be on the top of your dumb comment list!!!

If I'm Kelly Or CFA I'm listening and paying attention. The vibe seems to be the sales pitch to Cam and Ty is coming in to replace AK and Hurd. Well, if I'm already on campus where does that leave me except on the bench? If you were to poll the board and they were honest I doubt the % of Kelly or CFA starting over Ty or Cam is very high even in 2017. So in reality both could likely be backups their whole career at UT. Yes, it's great having guys happy on the bench. I also understand why some quickly read the writing on the wall and bail.

As a fan I love the competition. I love having quality talent and depth in the 2-3 deep. I also understand that expecting kids to sit the bench for 4-5 years IN CASE we need them is asking a lot. Especially if they can actually play elsewhere.

Its called stepping up and taking it. What do you think they said to Kelly or CFA when they recruited them? Guess what...same thing.

Kelly is an NFL back.
Ackers is still learning the position. Not sure hes better than CFA or Ty.

CFA is very talented. Chandler and him would make a solid 1- 2 punch.

If I were guessing it's Chandler and Kelly in 2017 with CFA getting the garbage reps. Lewis #4.Coleman if he sticks will RS.

Kelly will be a Junior by the time Chandler and Akers get to campus. He will be entrenched as a favorite having spent two full seasons plus an additional spring in the program and S&C. He isn't going anywhere at that point and will likely be the #1 back. CFA will have a full year in the program plus S&C and would likely be the #2 going into the 2017 fall camp. Chandler and Akers will have to earn their reps just the same as Kelly and CFA and all that competition will only make everyone better. I don't think it is prudent to talk about anyone transferring when the backs you think will push them to it haven't even signed their LOIs.

That logic dictates that we should only have two players at any position at any given time. We don't need no stinkin' 85 scholarships. 44 plus kickers is plenty.

Unfortunately those days are gone. If you hang around waiting your turn its more likely you'll be advised its in your best interest to look at other options as we need the spot. I mean just read this board a while. If a guy isn't making an impact as a RSSO, he's usually on the lets clear some space list. When you're always set on the mindset of taking a full class, these kids waiting are usually the ones sent packing.
