'17 GA CB/WR Jamyest Williams (S. Carolina commit)

Jamyest is a high 4* recruit and to some posters that's all that seems to matter to them in recruiting. Would you trade Jamyest with Baylen Buchanan who was one of our lower 3* recruits, but Shoop has praised him so far and coaches have said he reminds them of Cam Sutton when he first arrived? I do believe that recruiting matters a lot if you want to win big in college football, but look a little deeper at the recruit than just what he's star rating is before you determine he's a bust.

I always try to look at a recruit subjectivity. I do favor instate kids. I've said I would take various 3* and said I'd pass on some 4*. As for Williams, I'd have taken him if possible. He'd be easily one of our top 5 commits today. Kids a baller.

Listened to a very long interview with Jamyest's dad last night. Very impressed with the dad. A very insightful interview for anyone interested in the ins-and-outs of recruiting. My gut feeling after listening to the interview is that Carolina leads going into his visit to UGA today. It wouldn't surprise me if he tells the UGA staff today that he's decided to be a Gamecock. It really sounds to me like Jamyest and his dad are not comfortable with how Kirby and Tucker really feel about Jamyest. They are clearly much more comfortable with how the South Carolina staff feels about him. The dad also had some nice things to say about the Tenn staff.

Yeah, everything I've read about the kid has me thinking he'd be a great get for anyone. I think he could be successful on either side of the ball and in the return game.

I use the composite. I know not everyone does. If they are making an argument one way or the other all I can do is acknowledge they are using a different method than I do. Eastside said he was using rivals.

Just using simple math. If you go to the Rivals rankings and look at the avg player rankings you will see the same thing. We could speculate on what might happen in the future but for now it is what it is.

I like the average player rating too but sticking only to Rivals means the data points are about 25% of what they could be. Everyone should be using the Composite at 24/7 because it takes in 4 data points. Get this: not a single site is always right.

So the composite has our average at 86.50 and SCe's at 84.98 or something.

Yup. Using the composite we sit at 25th I believe. USCe is 34th.

I would agree that using the 247 composite is probably the fairest way to rank the classes. I like to use Rivals because the composite includes ESPN and Scout which I don't think are as accurate as 247 and Rivals.

What's really funny is that if we got a 4* Rivals player, Leb would be the first to point out if he wasn't a composite 4*. But his fellow troll uses Rivals to try to make a worse case for our class, and Leb pats his back. Even he must see the hypocrisy here. BTW, even if SC added JW, they would still be behind us in player ranking, but keep going with whatever helps you sleep at night.

Then there would be Lebs obligatory well his offer isnt committable anyway.

Tweet from Jamyest. Have no idea what it means.
"Kirby and Mel made the UGA visit well worth the trip."

Pizza delivery was under 30 minutes in Athens!

Honestly, none of us have time or knowledge to know which site has the most accurate ratings.

But isn't it somewhat moot since Butch doesn't use the services? Unless somebody here has visibility into how the staff ranks recruits, the service ratings are interesting, but largely irrelevant as an evaluation of how well the staff sees recruiting going.

The services the teams actually use are not for consumers. They are much more sophisticated than the public recruiting sites. When Jones talks about having a specific "profile", it is more than likely the one they use with their recruiting analysts to pick players that "fit" the program.

That doesn't surprise me, somewhat like the difference between the credit rating you see and the one the car dealer sees. But I was referring to the program's stated position that they do not use any service outside of their own internal one. If that is in fact not coach speak, then any rating given by a service (for consumers, or teams that use them) is really not useful for us to evaluate how the staff feels they are doing, only how the services feel they are doing. And if there is a disconnect between how the staff feels they are doing (staff thinks they've landed 5*) and how the services suggest they are doing (service thinks they're actually 3*), we really won't know who was right until those players have 2-3 years to develop and work their way into the starting lineup.

The point remains though: we have zero insight into how the staff rates, therefore we have zero insight into how well they feel they are doing. They may feel they have landed a bunch of future AAs and are giddy over the fact that nobody else figured it out, while VN is anguished over the apparent breakdown.

Looks like USCe May go on a little run. Williams looks like he's in. They are also getting CBs for a LB and another WR both ranked in the 130's nationally.

They're also about to go about 3-9 or 4-8 for the second straight yr. let's see how those recruits feel after what is sure to be a disaster season.
