'17 GA LB Solon Page III (UT signee)

Atlanta-area linebacker Solon Page III has been rock solid with the Vols since committing on April 16, and he said nothing about this weekend’s visit did anything but strengthen his love for Tennessee.

“It was all-around a great visit,” Page said. “I had a really good time. I spent a lot of time with some of the guys who are already here. I spent time with some of the guys who are committed, too, just building those bonds for the season with my class.”

“I had a good time with Matt Butler, Cheyenne Labruzza, Todd Kelly and Jumper,” he said. “We all just had a really good time. Butler’s a really funny guy. He’s just a good guy to be around.”

The longtime Tennessee commit politely told them they were wasting their time, though.

“Georgia and Florida are the two that really came by and tried, … but that didn’t change anything for me,” Page said. “My mind’s been made up since I committed back in April. I’m a Vol.”

The message Page got from the coaches was loud and clear and that message was to come in ready to compete and play. They are not being recruited to play in two or three years. It's to play now.

I feel it should be more gradual. Maybe 215 to 220 next year and let the process move as he matures. He's probably already around 205.

It's not the fact of putting on the weight but the adjustment that his body would require experiencing that much of a weight game over the next 4-5 months. I know it can be done. I would like to see what Rock has in store for each individual development.

Georgia Defensive Player of the Year...and didn't get a fourth star? I watched this kids film, he is legit. I'm glad we held on to him.

he doesnt need to be 240lbs....his skillset is not that of a 240lb backer.he has a JRM type of skillset. he'll be fine at 225-230.

He's 3 inches taller than maybin
and hes about 195 right now.

He can be 230 and still look slender.

I agree with you though. Hell be fine at 225

He's listed at 6'2 207lbs, so not that much taller than Maybin. But yes I think another 15-20 lbs is more realistic, and that's plenty heavy enough for a freshman LB. I'm pretty excited about this LB group in general. We got to see Jumper emerge in a pretty decent player last year, and Mcdowell got some seriously good experience he otherwise wouldn't have. Looking at who we have on the roster:

Proven guys like Kirland, Jumper, Mcdowell would get the obvious starts, then you have guys like Bituli and Berry who got some time last year. Definitely feel like Sapp could have a good year considering how much talk there was about him before he was injured early. Then consider Bates and Bryant, who were both touted 4 stars who haven't "shown up" yet. But then again Malone and Croom didn't really have great/great years until later in their college careers. I think people forget about RS FRBlakely, but that kid is talented as well. Finally, Ignont, Reid and Page could see early playing time this coming season too, Ignont in particular. That guy is huge.

One thing is for sure, there is A LOT of talent at LB. Hopefully Thig and Rock can turn them into some studs in the SEC.

EDIT: 8/12 of those guys were 4 stars coming out of high school. 9/12 if you count Page..which I do.
