'17 GA LB Solon Page III (UT signee)

"They wanted to use me like a nickel so they would have me out at WILL linebacker and they want to use me where I don't come off the field," Page said. "He said that some guys can only play two downs and they have to come off the field on third down when it's a passing situation but with me I can play all three downs. I can be on a receiver or a back or whatever they need."

With Page now firm with the Vols he plans to start recruiting his friends in the Peach State.

"I'll be trying to. A lot of guys I know have already committed to Georgia, but a lot of other guys haven't so I'm going to try and get them to run through the 'T,'" Page said. "It means a lot because of team chemistry. If you don't have chemistry then you have to spent time building that instead of building on the field."

SCOUTING REPORT ON PAGE:

Now we turn to Rivals.com Southeast Recruiting Analyst for a closer look at what Page brings to the table:

"Solon Page is a guy I think his future is going to continue to be bright as he continues to improve. This is a guy we've seen for years at Rivals Camp Series events and he's evolved.

"He's tall, he's rangy and he can move really well. I had a chance to see him at a couple different things and he does a great job of covering in space. He's a versatile guy for an outside linebacker and he might be a potential oversized safety. It just depends on how he develops.

"But, that versatility makes him a guy you want in the class."

Hope the comparisons to Sapp are accurate. Q. was all over the place yesterday. Had a good spring game.

Welcome aboard Solon.

I'd say Butchco is better talent evaluator than those rating him a three star. JMO

A four star is supposed to be an immediate impact player. With Page's weight, he might or might not be that. As a HS player who coach believes will develop into a good fit in the program, Page was a take. Now he is taken.

Not that it matters but I'd bet he's a four star by NSD. My point was the OP said he trust the services over message board posters and my point was I trust Butch and his staff over the services.

75% of the next four star bumps will be Vols.

I disagree somewhat on the 4* being defined as instant impact. There have been 5*'s based on talent alone with everyone knowing they needed a year or two to reach potential.

That's a fair enough point. But are you a better evaluator of talent than those who have rated him a 3 star? I personally trust the staff and think we'll be fine in the end, but I'll admit to being disappointed if we come out of such a big weekend with one 3 star commit.

Fulmers downfall was he got lazy and looked at stars and had bad staff evaluations. Jones and this staff have been the opposite of lazy and have proven themselves as better evaluators than these recruit gurus.

Not to take this OT but ever since 247 rated Matt Elam a 5* their ratings have been completely meaningless to me. How you can be that off on a prospect is just baffling, especially when the other services rate the guy a mid to low 3* and say it is painfully obvious when you see him he is nowhere near an elite talent and in terrible shape. He could barely get out of his stance last year in the Tennessee game during the 10 or so plays he was in there.

bama was in the hunt

Has that Elam done anything?? He went to UK right

Not really. He played maybe 10-15 snaps per game last year as a sophomore. Definitely not what you'd expect from a 5* playing for a doormat.

He made a bad choice though. He's playing in the totally wrong scheme and should have gone somewhere where he could have redshirted. No clue what he was thinking there. He was much better suited to be a 3-4 NG.
