'17 GA OLB/DE Robert Beal (UGA commit)

UGA outside linebackers coach Kevin Sherrer was huge here in Beal’s recruiting process. Beal said that the single biggest reason why he chose the Bulldogs was that trust and that relationship he had formed with Sherrer.
Extra intel on Robert Beal plus some lofty praise for big OT Isaiah Wilson

The redshirt sophomore appeared poised for a breakout during his 2018 redshirt freshman campaign, when he saw action in 11 games and tallied 15 tackles, a sack, and a quarterback hurry, despite missing time due to a death in the family and a concussion. However he was passed on the depth chart in 2019 and has seen action in only 4 contests, none since the Mizzou game on November 9th, when he logged his only solo tackle of the season. Since then redshirt freshman Azeez Ojulari and true freshman Nolan Smith have emerged as potential starters at the position, along with junior stalwart Walter Grant and transfer Jermaine Johnson. In short this looks like a classic case of a good football player just being recruited over.

Obviously Beal could still rethink his decision and return to Athens. If he doesn’t and transfers to an FBS school he may have to sit out a season (he already redshirted in 2017) and have only one season of eligibility left. So far as possible destinations go, I’d keep an eye on Tennessee, with defensive coordinator Kevin Sherrer who recruited him to Georgia and head coach Jeremy Pruitt, who recruited Beal while he was the DC under Nick Saban at Alabama.

Interesting. Can anyone shed light on Beal as a player? If I'm reading this correctly, and he's only going to have one year to play, it seems like gamble to take up a spot in this class. Seems like it may make more sense for Beal to transfer to an FCS school and be able to play two more years. Just curious.

Smh at these comments.... Gibbs was similar situation and he is expected to be major impact at WR. Maybe you should realize he was at a stacked position and got in dog house with his arrest for
Marijuana which opened door for the other #1 players in country. You guys just Cool with Bennett, Harrison and Johnson? I’m not. I’d take a chance in former top player in country

Gibbs will have 2 years to play at UT. Beal would have 1. There's a big difference to me, but that's just my opinion.

He has to sit out a year and only has one year of eligibility. The ‘21 class is stacked with talent.

Time he plays we’ll have a lot more kids playing linebacker.

Yes because our depth chart is filled with so many 5 star pass rushers that it would happen here too. 🙄
Seriously, we have no one proven at this position. Bennett is our only guy, and he is far from elite. Hopefully he gets there, but he isn't there yet. Crouch and Harrison were freshmen, but we don't know how good they are going to be. WE could use a guy with experience and talent, even if he isn't as good as the other 3 5 stars ga has at the position.

Star player out of Norcross...found himself buried on the depth chart, got in the doghouse and transferred out.
The Alvin Kamara Story.

I don't think he'd be a difference maker, definitely not worth the roster spot to have to wait a year and have one year of eligibility for 2021. We can do better than that, especially by then (2021), plus off the field issues. I believe in our staff's ability to recruit and develop a hell of a lot more than that.

*"expected to be". Gibbs has been expected to do a lot for a long time, he's yet to do it. Alvin Kamara, yeah, that was obviously a good get, but I don't think we can waive DeAngelo Gibbs around as a success story, at least not yet.
