'17 IN QB Hunter Johnson (Former UT Commit 8/23/15) (Clemson commit)

Per Hubbs

Finally, what a week it was for the Vols on the 2017 front. First, it was Hunter Johnson on Sunday night followed by Tee Higgins on Monday night but those two incidents aren't independent.

Higgins was the first player Johnson contacted after he got off the phone with Butch Jones on Sunday and while Higgins was considered a strong lean to Tennessee, that conversation Sunday night sure seems like a final push to help seal Higgins up early.

But, Higgins wasn't the only one Johnson reached out to as the No. 1 signal caller also has been in touch with instate running back Cordarrian Richardson, instate offensive lineman Trey Smith and Ohio tight end Matt Dotson. Look for Hunter to recruit for the Vols with not a lot of flash, but with some real substance.

I'd say it's probably way more than half

Let's face it, the one thing that has never changed in college football for many years. Winning teams are not built based on the performance of their highly rated players, but on the performance of those that many did not foresee.

Go and look at the 1998 championship season. If anyone had come to you in 1997 and told you that we would win a national title in 1998, without Peyton Manning, Leonard Little and Marcus Nash would you have believed it? It would be especially unbelievable had you been told that Jamal Lewis would have little to do with it.

I agree. I think someone posted an article on here once about how many 3 star and lower players make NFL rosters. It's almost impossible for a 5 star to live up to the expectations

Holy crap!

@Volquest_Paul: Hunter Johnson's stats from Friday night are unreal. 25-38 for 445 yards and six TDs with only one int. Great outing in a 65-47 loss.

His defense sucks something fierce.
