'17 IN QB Hunter Johnson (Former UT Commit 8/23/15) (Clemson commit)

I like turtles.

And I hate pigeons.

From the Pylon Elite Las Vegas 7v7 wrap-up on ESPN.

Hunter Johnson, playing for Core 6, led a team of prospects from across the country and performed well. Johnson said he holds 11 offers and said he'll be looking to use his visits this summer to being narrowing his choices.

Michigan State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn State and Tennessee were the schools Johnson mentioned as likely to receive visits. He cited offensive coaches with the Fighting Irish and Volunteers as big reasons why he'd like to put in some time face-to-face.

"I want to go somewhere that has a good coaching staff, good history, a successful program where I'm able to play and have a full experience with no regrets," Johnson said, adding that there's no time frame for a decision or even when he'll narrow down his options. "Whenever I'm ready, I'm going to decide."

Las Vegas Pylon 7-on-7: Top Offensive Performers (3/1)

#1. Hunter Johnson
Performance: Johnson was surrounded by outstanding talent on his Core 6 team, and the 2017 standout took full advantage making all the throws whether it was a deep touch pass into the corner of the end zone or zipping the ball between two defenders. Johnson is also cerebral, goes through his reads and then delivers a strike on almost every pass.

Jacob Eason (the #1 overall QB prospect for the class of 2016) came in at #5.

The Brownsburg, Ind., standout, who might be one of the best quarterbacks in his class, said Notre Dame, Florida State and Michigan State have reached out and are much more interested. Johnson said Penn State and Tennessee have been the most aggressive out of the schools that have offered but those new programs could make things even more interesting for the young quarterback.

(Same event, but for some reason they had him at #8 - maybe from another analysts perspective)

Johnson has a compact throwing motion that allows him to be very consistent as a passer. He kept his feet moving in the pocket and threw perhaps the tightest spiral in the event. Johnson distributed the ball well, too, which shouldn't be overlooked given how easy it could be for quarterbacks to key in on one receiver.

Best of Midwest Combine, 2/16

#6 Hunter Johnson

Performance: The quarterback group was easily one of the two deepest positions on the day, and Johnson edged out a bunch of impressive passers to snag one of the MVP awards. The football jumps off the 6-foot-2, 187-pound sophomore's hand and he has the arm strength to hit all points on the field. He also shows great balance in his drops, giving him the base from which he can unleash the fastball. The only knock on Johnson at this stage is consistency, but that should come with time.

Core 6 Showcase: Top Performers

#7 Hunter Johnson

Performance: There has already been a lot of hype around Johnson, even though he is just a sophomore. Monday was my first, good in-person look at him, and the 2017 signal caller lived up to his billing. Johnson has a live arm and the ball comes out with plenty of velocity. He can throttle back and put some touch on his passes, but the ball does not come out with the same rotation. That's an aspect that can be coached up. The live arm cannot, and expect Johnson's star to continue to rise because of it.

My wife's family lives in Brownsburg where this kid lives. Will definitely go to one of his games this fall wearing orange.

Just from some feedback up there and knowing central Indiana, I would say Notre Dame has the best chance even if he hasn't named leaders.

Notre Dame will be very appealing now that they hired Mike Sanford as their OC.
