'17 IN QB Hunter Johnson (Former UT Commit 8/23/15) (Clemson commit)

Showed enough that two high program staffs have sought and accepted his commitment.

JG is better and is perfect for Butch's spread offense. HJ could become a good QB in an Pro Style offense with a good O-Line but other than that, I think we got the better athlete in JG. Watch his film and compare it to HJ's.

I like JG a lot and do think he is a great fit for this offense. I'm not sure who is better definitely or what that has to do with Hunter Johnson's ability.

Me either. One is 2016. One is 2017. Unless I've missed something, it does appear as though we'd like a QB in this class. If JG ends up better, ok. Does that mean HJ on the depth chart would be bad? One QB in 2016, one in 2017, take one 2018. Sounds fine to me.

Cause a lot of posters are acting like HJ was a huge loss and there was a fair share of posters questioning his film cause it did not scream as an #1 overall QB. Not to mention we got bigger needs on this team and an QB is not one of them. I'd rather take two good running backs over HJ to replace Hurd & Kamara.

Keep talking. JG is a better athlete that fits Butch's offense. Who gives a sh*t about the kind of offense Clemson runs. If you think Johnson is better based off just a 5* ranking, you're going to be disappointed.

The point was he's not coming here so who cares if he fits our offense. Clemson is more of a throw based offense which is what Johnson does. The argument between and JG is moot since they're in different classes. It's not a one or the other scenario.

Just scrolled through the first pages of thread after he committed. Amazing how opinions can change so greatly once a player isn't a commit any more.

Josh, you called him the biggest commit of Butch Jones era.

It is a need since Jones has shown the propensity to transfer. We run the risk of having 2 QB's on the roster in '17 if we don't take one this year.

True:rock:

Bottom line, so called message board experts always think they know more than coaches. The 247 report from the open yesterday has HJ as one of the best there. Being on his track team would hint that he'd be perfect for Tennessee's or Clemson's offense. Will he run as much as Dobb's or Watson ? Doubt it, but just the treat of it makes the spread work much better. At this point, according to 247's composite rating that averages ratings from all 4 services, there's only 2 5 star QB's(Pro or Dual) in the 2017 class and he's one of them.

Our WR production over the past couple of years has more to do with it than another recruit committed to a different school. Whether we like it or not, Clemson has a lot more to sell to a WR recruit than we do right now.

I think Johnson and Rogers played a role, but I think we are giving them too much credit. Plus, Higgins' recruitment is not over.

:eek:k: Thanks.

Star ranking wise, he was Butch's biggest commit considering he was ranked the #1 QB in '17. Doesn't mean he had the most potential out of all Butch's recruits. Volnation is full of star gazers and automatically assumes they'll be All Americans just because they have 4* & 5*s next to their name. If that's the case then half our damn starting lineup shouldn't even be on the field considering a big chunk of them were 3*s coming out of high school.

So you were just star gazing. Ok.

Read my post again. A lot of posters freak out when recruit a lot of 3*s but I'm not one of them. Some of the lower rated commits we got now have a lot of potential to be good in Butch's offense. In case you forgot, Butch is getting paid to make the decisions around here and if he feels like a lower rated commit deserves a spot, I'm all for it. I don't b*tch about them being 3*s like some of the star gazers we got here on Volnation. But you know it all so I'm sure you know more about football than the staff.

Oh I like that idea. Butch hire me as recruiting coordinator? Now we're talking. Lock down the state? Build a fence? I got this.

I forgot another key factor in my favor. I'm hiring D4H to watch all the film for me. He can pick out a fan in the stands eating nachos and know they will be the 16th player taken in the draft 3 years down the road.

Consider the source it came from

Yes. Along with similarities in size, athleticism, and playing style.

I can point to probably 50 QBs in college foitbsll that have similar size and weight and playing style and probably athleticism.

Please stop acting like you have an ounce of football knowledge more than anyone else. I know I know, you have a self appointed PH.D. in "football film breakdown."

I was excited wen he committed. Less excited after watching that ESPN game. Always thought he was talented. Wondered from the beginning if he really fit Butch's offensive scheme but many on here said Butch's scheme was flexible to allow for a pro style passer. Looking at his days in Cincy I thought that was probably accurate. The jury is still out on that I guess but as time goes on I wonder if this is Butch's true offense we're seeing. If that's the case, regardless of HJ's talents, he wouldn't have succeeded here. Oddly enough Clemson runs a similar offense, and I don't seeing him succeeding there. I've said it before, I would bet he doesn't finish his career there. I guess we'll see in 3-4 years. I think he's a great talent but not in that Clemson spread.

BS. Somebody called you on your nonsense and now you are doing everything you can to save face. Keep spinning your nonsense though.

JG might very well be more talented and have a better career than HJ. But assumptions are just that, assumptions. Yeah there were some on here that questioned HJs ability but lets be honest, the many coaches around the country know more than all of VN combined when it comes to evaluating talent. The same coach that recruited JG recognized HJs talent. Butch Jones. So

Yet you're one of these posters who's probably whined and cried about Butch getting 3* players as of lately when some of them actually can contribute to this football team. I remember you making a comment about no 5*s are lining up to play for Butch right now when it's still freaking early in the recruiting process so you've had your fair share of nonsense. HJ isn't a big loss as you think he is. He'd be sitting behind Dormady, Jones, & JG on the depth chart and probably wouldn't get much playing time. Hell we need more DT's, RB's, and a few more Offensive Lineman wouldn't hurt either. So he's negatively recruiting against Tennessee right now? Big whoop. It's not going to make him a better QB at Clemson unless he just blows Dabo away by surprise. Butch has also recruited kids that's ranked lower than what VN is satisfied with who looks to be solid players regardless of their 3* ranking. Take off your star gazer tag and actually trust the coaches for once. The 5* players will come this year when we win the East and have an 10+ win season.
