Wow your second paragrapgh is a little shocking. It seems when a player decommitts from Tennessee, he is met with the obligatory statements like you have made. Along with ones like oh we are in on better players or we passed on him or we didnt want him anyway. Why is it that the same recruiting guys who rank Lawrence so high are right on him but they are wrong about Johnson?
Glad he signed with Clemson? Give me a break. Most if not all of us on this board were excited when HJ committed to UT. We gushed over his abilities and could not wait to have the number 1 QB. Now, in typical idiotic fashion, fans are talking like he is overrated and not worthy of his ranking. Good grief some of you need a clue. You can say you're glad the #1 QB committed elsehwere but you're fooling yourself. All HJ has done since committing to Clemson is get Rodgers and Higgins to commit with him and he is recruiting for them even more. Who do we have that is recruiting like crazy for us and bringing in serious talent? Here is a hint, nobody. Spin it how you want but losing HJ hurt.
BTW, if Lawrence is afraid of competition then I dont want him. I dont think he is personally and if we would have landed HJ, I dont think it would have affected his decision at all.

If he's the best QB in this years recruiting class, it must be a pretty damn weak one.
I am sure you would be saying the same thing if he would have kept his commitment.
Tone is a lot different in here, compared to page one.
He's got a lot of talent, and is going to a talented team. Odds are in his favor to succeed
Do you disagree EricVol? It seems he played a part in Tee going to Clemson over UT.
Ohhh, c'mon...I was under the impression that people tried really hard to like HJ because of his rankings and his commitment to the Vols. His QB play and stats never reflected his ratings. Some people on this board tried way too hard to justify his 3-4 interception games, but in all honesty I got the feeling that many shared the same sentiment as I did in that he was overrated.I did not expect him to stay and I had the same feeling other felt and even hoped he would leave.
At that time, our chances with Trevor Lawrence were much better. I would have felt bad if Hunter Johnson joined us, continued to recruit for us only to sit behind Guarantono and then have Trevor Lawrence take over afterwards. I truly felt he would never see the field. In fact, I think the possibility of us getting TL weighed into HJ looking elsewhere.
Finally, while I don't think Trevor is afraid of competition, I felt that it would be better if we prioritized him and told him we wanted him so much we wouldn't recruit anyone else. He could be the QB of the future. Normally, I would never endorse that view with HS players, but TL is simply that good. The next Peyton Manning in the making in my eyes.
