'17 LA CB Cheyenne Labruzza (UT signeee)

The comments made by Butch about Pat Summitt were discussed in RF this week and about how Butch says the right things. He is doing what he is saying. He is recruiting talented players but also ones who are great representatives of the university, along with working hard and determined to succeed.

“I’m still firmly committed,” said Labruzza, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 441 overall prospect and No. 41 cornerback in the 247Sports Composite for the 2017 class. “I’m definitely a hard commit still, and I don’t plan on changing my mind, either.”

As long as LSU doesn't start pushing for him, he might sign with us.

This kid is very likeable. With this comment and the recent article on him from his area paper, I'm pulling for him big-time.

I think this kid is another Cam Sutton.

We need to keep him. He's very underrated.

Labruzza’s on-the-field triumphs may pale in comparison to the success the All-State athlete has achieved in the classroom. He maintains a 4.25 GPA, so if you thought that a 4.0 was perfect, then think again.

He has a knack for science and math and history, among many other subjects, and Labruzza credits some of his book smarts for his ascension as a defensive back.

“I would say a majority of the game is mental,” Labruzza said. “If there’s a deep pass, you got to [respond] and have a short memory for the next play. You can’t get down on yourself. Otherwise you’ll give up more.”

“The Volunteers recruited me more and harder than any other school,” said Labruzza..."“They showed me why they wanted me. How they could use me. Plans for me. They showed me that family atmosphere. They welcomed me in. They welcomed my family in. The first time I stepped on campus I felt like I was already apart of the team.”

Labruzza ultimately opted for Rocky Top because of the “fit.” He spoke glowingly about his relationships with coach Butch Jones and defensive backs assistant Willie Martinez.

...“I’m very solid to Tennessee.”

I'm really glad to see this kid is solid to UT. Smart kids like him and Kirkland will be great leaders in the future!

Really like Labruzza, glad he's solid. He may not be the kind of player who goes in the top 3 rounds of the draft, but he seems like a terrific kid who can develop into a leader

Labruzza has also set his sights on getting some talent to join Tennessee’s class, targeting two 5-star studs.

“I’m trying to recruit (running back) Cam Akers and (athlete) Deangelo Gibbs.”

Keep the pressure up, young man. Maybe work on some of our instate wants as well while you are at it.

From what I've read his a long DB with off the charts athleticism. Clearly he's bright and motivated as well. I get that he might not be selected in the first round of the 2017 draft but I would wager that the traits I've listed above have more in common with guys taken in the first three rounds of the draft than traits like "5 stars"

I wish they would just let kids who are solid sign even if its early. Then only let them out of its a coaching change. It would stop some of the silly season and then you could maybe give that kid some of the schools resources from an academic standpoint to help make sure they get in to school and are prepared for school once they get there

I'd be all for an early signing period as long as the kid is on track qualifying wise. Kid gets his spot locked in. Coaches can consider that spot filled and focus elsewhere.
