'17 MS TE Chase Rogers (Former UT commit)

2 stah! Yawzah 😎!

This kid is underrated. Not the biggest guy for the position, but hes physical.

Brings a lot of versatility to the offense and our blockinh scheme.

He's a mid to high 3* on all sites except Rivals...and a composite mid 3*...it would seem that everyone except Rivals has this one figured out...hopefully they'll pull their heads out of their rear ends soon

Idk a guy on the inside said this kid is good. Says he expects 1,000+ this year.

Has anybody on here asked you what Butch is like? All we ever see of him is interviews and stuff. Just would like to know what he's like when he talks with you and Chase and how those recruiting conversations go. I don't know if its cool to ask that or not, just curious

Coach Jones is amazing person. We drove 8 hours and where tired after a full day on campus. We were leaving and Coach Scott stop us and brought us up to Coach Jones office. He draws you in and allows you to talk. He addressed everyone of us and made all 5 of us feel important. That 20 minutes was worth 16 hours of driving. I was a great experience and I have had the pleasure of doing it twice

“I wanted to get up before our season started so I could watch them practice and see how they do things and their intensity. I wanted to see how they run their offense and it was a great experience,” Rogers said. “I got to follow around the tight ends and see what they do and the intensity they play with is the same we do. I’m ready to get up there and play in that offense."

“Coach Scott came from a great tight end's school," Rogers said. "He told me he put five straight tight ends into the NFL. That was big to me. He’s coached some of the best college tight ends and he believes in me and sees something special in me.”

It took longer for other schools to catch on to what Scott and the Vols saw early on in Rogers. In-state schools Mississippi State and Ole Miss offered during the spring and summer, but Rogers maintains when signing day rolls around he will be signing with Tennessee.

“I’m still the same. I’m sticking with Tennessee. They were my first big SEC offer and the first school to believe in me," Rogers said. "I went to all these other schools and they were like, ‘You’re so-so and we’ll get back to you.’ And I never heard back from them.

“Tennessee was straight up with me. They told me to come and visit and if I do I will most likely get an offer. I went up there, they liked me and my size and my tape, especially the yards after catch.”

He should top that this year

How was he slow played with those numbers? Does he not camp? That is the only reason I can think of as to why his rank isn't that high. And we all know how much recruiting sites love kids who camp.

I think recruiting sites are lazy, feed off of each other, and when they do evaluate talent it's heavily focused on camps. I call into question how much film they actually watch.

We camped one Nike camp last year, had foot surgery and was unable to camp this summer. He did attend the all American Bowl Combine but unable to do drills.

If you compare his film to the top few TE's in nation then you get a really good sense of how really good he is. To top it off. He is the most mentally tough 17yr old I have ever been around. I have pounded that in his mind since a small child. All big games he does great. Never fumbled in his high school career of 43 straight starts.

Man, I'm reading this and thinking 2 things: I'm so glad we have CBJ and the 2nd is that I'm so glad we have the Rogers family on board. Not only is Chase going to be amazing but it's going to be a privilege to have his family as part of the Big Orange family. I grew up in Memphis and most of my graduating HS class went to Ole Miss so I know how hard the pull must be for an in-state kid to go there. Welcome aboard Mr. Rogers.

There are two positions I don't sweat this this staff's evals: OL and TE

Couple years ago there was all kind of hand wringing on this board about butch not being able to recruit o-line. ( Not you ViA, just piggybacking on your comment).

Any of you folks in the Gulf Coast of Mississippi area going anywhere to watch the Appy state game a week from now? I plan on going out but would be good to watch with some Vol fans.

If you are going to be on the coast, I will meet you to watch game...

Did your son go to camps ?

With stats like those yoi would think he would get more love from the recruiting services.

As long as Butch is happy I don't worry about recruiting rankings, so I'm glad Chase will be a Vol.

Good luck with the season.

Edit:

Sorry, I asked the same question as others. I should have read on down a little.

Go to Chase Rogers ESPN and his profile has him 7th hibrid TE in the nation. To the right of his profile pic is 7-position click on that. They have him rated pretty high

Is hybrid TE more of a receiving TE? What would Ethan Wolf's classification be iyo?
