'17 MS TE Chase Rogers (Former UT commit)

Yeah we're really wearing that deep ball out. Especially during that stretch of three losses.

And the one at UGA was the hail marry. Thanks for proving my point.

I admire your tenacity, my friend. I am wondering about your sanity. Why engage Bruin? It is such a waste of your intelligence.

The classic is actual results from plays based on game situations. Throwing a 15 yard cross that Malone takes to the house for 50+ yards or a swing/screen to Kamara that he runs for 20+ yards. What was the down, distance, score, O-line on the field, formation, pocket/roll out/ scramble? What coverage was the D in, blitz, 3 or 4 man rush, etc.?

You can't look at simple cumulative stats on individuals and know much of anything. You can spot trends, but not actual performance of specific play types.

Agreed you can't just go by the stats, you actually watch the games. This year our big plays to the WRs have been downfield with 2 exceptions. The skinny post to Malone against Florida and the WR screen to Byrd on Saturday. The rest for the big plays have been downfield for the WRs.

The more he post the more his intelligence, or lack thereof is on full display. Anyone that thinks we've challenged teams downfield with any regularity is a fool.

You're right, for the sake of others on the board, I'm done. Lost much respect for him.

Josh Malone 18.5 yards per catch and 8TDs

The best yards after catch in college football history says the ignorance of Vol fans. Screen after screen.

That's the worst analogy I've ever read on this board and that's saying something.

A better analogy would be going for a job interview and being told you have the job. Calling you each week and telling you how much we look forward to you joining the team. Week after week you get a call or a text saying how much your needed. Then a few weeks before your supposed to start you can't get in touch with anyone.

As far as participation trophys. I have to laugh. I bet you're a milineal. You only care about yourself. To hell with everybody unless it benefits you somehow. It's called scruples. It's called being a man. It's called having nuts. It's about not being a coward. It's about not being afraid to face up to what you are doing. I don't have an issue with cutting the kid loose. My issue is with not being man enough to own it. IF the dad is being truthful and the staff just quit communicating. (Is that a strong enough IF for you Newt?)

Edit:

I'll add that I own my own business ND I frequently interview and hire. While not always but I do try and call all the people that interview and thank them for their time and inform them of my decision and wish them luck. It's called being a good person.
He was allowed to commit to us. You do understand his verbal commitment to us, literally means about as much as my verbal commitment to Ariana Grande? That's why there are cases of guys like that one kid that gets made fun of on here for saying a top 8 of schools that none had interest in him. McLisse or something? So the analogy of getting the job isn't accurate. Even according to his dad, we had guys higher on the board. It's pretty clear what happened here. He wasn't a top choice. Top choices (Trey Smith, Deangelo Gibbs, etc) would not have his happen to them, because they are that, the top choices. The ones really "getting the job" in your analogy. Chase was a candidate with hope of getting the job.

I am a millennial and yes I mostly care about myself. It's how life should be. Giving and caring about others is important, but i am the most important thing in my life (as I do not have kids or anything to put first). It's really baffling to me that you're so concerned about a courtesy call. And like I said they were still probably not 100% they didn't want him, so why would they make that call. There was likely a very small chance we could fit him in so we slow played him. It makes perfect sense to me. If we told every kid exactly where they are on our board, we'd likey lose 3-5 commits over ego.

Like I said I worked for a college football team and the recruiting board was covered and locked away unless the coaches were meeting to discuss recruiting. If a kid "player x" was to see he was a commit but 9th on their DT board with a grade of a 82, do you not think it could hurt his feelings some? It is what it is. Recruiting is fluid, recruiting is all about shuffling and finding the right guys, but also having a pulse for who you can or cannot get to make the best possible class.

You as well as I know that not everyone is a good person and not everyone has time for courtesy calls. Even so, you are a Tennessee fan right? So questioning what happened is one thing, but being so adamant about this makes me believe you're a Rogers fan.

Like I said, this happens every class. Kids will be getting contact every day then a decision is made and contact is cut off or almost cut off. Kids get their scholarship pulled for getting hurt. Kids get left out to dry every year. Chase will be fine. His father seems okay. I don't understand the few on our fanbase so worried about a phone call.

Go Vols! We can agree on that, hopefully!

Our deep balls aren't really deep balls. How many passes has Dobbs completed over 25-30 in air? One against a terrible UK? Maybe 0 against UK honestly. The flea flicker is the only one that comes close IMO. Maybe I'm forgetting one. Our deep balls are mostly 15-20 yard throws and a broken tackle

Exactly how many pass completions does it take a game to satisfy being effective at down field passing?

Kentucky game:
Malone for 51
Smith for 24
Wolf for 20
Jennings for 19

Were all Downfield throws and that's not counting the 44yd one to Byrd because it was at the line of scrimmage.

If you guys think it takes throwing for 500yds with 6-8 passes a game downfield to be called a vertical passing team then I challenge you guys to find one team that does that.

Kid was basically ignored by staff. Inquiries by dad went unanswered.

Real classy head coach we have!!!!

Oh you must know both sides of the story to make such judgement, or you just going by what the father said only? Classy on your part to believe a one sided story from a father over the HC of your team. If dad hadn't come on in here it would be just another thread and us saying we must be on someone better.

We offered him a spot on the team, he accepted that offer. We retracted that offer. A phone call to tell the kid where he stood instead of letting him guess where he stood is not to much to ask. It's called common decency and would have taken all of two minutes. This has nothing to do with Chase Rogers. It has to do with principle. It's called doing the right thing, not the easy thing. It's a bad representation of our program. But if your ok with it I guess it's OK. I think behavior like this is unprofessional and will come back to bite the program.

Also the coach worshipers will scourge anyone questioning the commitments CBJ accepts....ala 3*s....but worshipers don't seem to mind CBJ pulling their offer and ignoring them. They will makeup all kinds of excuses for coach. Silly!

Apparently this is really hard for some to grasp. By accepting his commit, it IS equivalent to the employer offering you the job and you agreeing to work for that company. It is legally binding (of course, they could find just cause to fire you I suppose) on the 1st day.

As far as slow playing, every team does it as you need plan B type guys if the big fish go elsewhere. Here is the difference, you slow play your NON commits, and tell them if player A doesn't commit, you have a spot. You don't slow play your commits, that's asinine.

Would you take your ex back if she changed her mind?

I can't believe these questions or that people really expect the people involved to explain their positions.

Let this sort itself out. When you really need to know, you will know.

I guess you didn't read what I wrote or you would've seen that there was no need to be a smartass. I said I could understand if they weren't but I'm not going to assume I know what decision someone else would make. Maybe you and the rest of a holes on here need to quit being so quick to attack people for asking a question that wasn't addressed to you.

Fine. I think the continuation of that line of questioning is tacky and thoughtless under the circumstances. I was raised to give people their space when they need it.

It was a question just like the 1 million other he has been asked on here. He doesn't have to answer if he doesn't want to and I won't mind if he doesn't. That still doesn't make it OK for you to be a d-bag for no reason.

Mentally Chase has moved on. Not healthy to want something you can't have. Tenn is always a option but we are set on looking at other schools now. No decision will be made on our side till after Dec 10 Allstar game in Montgomery, AL

Thank you all for all the support. Leaving Vol Nation now. Be hard not to ck back in time to time. Go Vols!

Thank you for answering and best of luck to you and your son.

It's going to be tough next year. The East will take a step forward and we will take a step back with talent and experience .

Florida is losing most of defense lol. Georgia has Smart(lol) will be losing Michel, Chubb, Majority of their Oline, Maurice Smith and then whoever else goes pro on their defense. But whatever fits your narrative I guess

Ridiculous

Only Florida and Tennessee should be worse.

Everyone said the same thing last year about how it will be better lol.
Georgia is losing Michel, Chubb, Minimum of 3 starting Oline men. The only other team that will improve a decent amount is SoCar

Chubb hasn't made a decision yet, but OL will lose experience, that's true. However every single other position will be improved. Entire defense will be back as well.

Chubb already had a bad injury once, RB don't typically last very long. Both Michel and Chubb have complained about lack of touches. Doubt either come back but we'll see. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few Jr's defense leave either. Word is players who were around with Richt don't really care for Smart
