'17 NC DE Matthew Butler (UT Signee)

Seriously, how is he on the same list as those names, several are 5 stars and he's a 3 star? It's foolishness. I'm not just pumping sunshine, there are some seriously underrated guys in this class like Butler, Murphy, Labruzza, Bailey, Shamburger, Bembry and others. It's absurd that some of these guys are 3 stars.

Labruzza being a 3 star makes no sense. Both LSU and Florida wanted him badly. And if anybody knows DBs it's LSU and Florida. His film was great. Plus its not like he's some undersized guy either, his measurables are ideal.

Labruzza and Butler being 3 stars makes zero sense.

Had those two and Page been rated like they should've this class would be viewed a little different IMO.

I think it makes complete sense if you accept how weak these ratings are as metrics. Assuming the rating systems are accurate makes zero sense. There is a ton of data that shows their failings. They are simply not very precise nor accurate. And you point out what we expect to be more evidence of that.

I once heard someone say of a particular metric that it was wrong too often to rely on and right too often to completely ignore. I think that fits on ranking athletes.

Pretty sure they didn't camp. Plus the injury for bruzza

Butler, Labruzza, Page and Murphy are legitimate 4* players. This class wasn't exceptional by any means, but it is far, far better then the general perception on VolNation IMO. Very solid, borderline top 10 class IMO.

This is a very fast and athletic class overall. I think there will be a few from this class that well exceed their star rating. Player development is the key.

I am very excited about this guy. Saw a picture of him at the O&W game and he looks ready. Guy is jacked. I bet he contributes day one. Would not surprise me to see him be an instant impact guy. We need him to be also. This may be the most underrated recruit from this last class

Bass? Don't bump signed players threads. Was already going "what now?" :scare:

Him and Jacquez Jones are the most underrated and I predict both will make an impact this year.

Butler for sure, although he did get a bump to a 4 star on just about every site I think by the time January rolled around.

I just hope he can give us some reps at DE. That is where we have the much bigger need and I think he's athletic enough to stay out there.

Hopefully kongbo Phillips and Taylor can take the majority of reps this year and let Butler take kongbo spot next year.

I thought Kongbo had three years to play three. If so, that leaves him with two. I could be wrong but that's my recollection.
