So Butler is inside right?

I think we should be good at DT if we stay healthy

1st Vickers McKenzie
2nd Tuttle Johnson
3rd Picou Butler
They always talk about Quay being undersized he looks plenty big in this pic

Quay is finally at the size where he can contribute. He was undersized the last 2 years but has worked hard in the weight room. Good for him.

I'll be interested to see where they start him off. He seems like a shoe in to be a DT for us down the line, but DE is probably a bigger need in 2017

DE is what he was saying in recruiting. Similar to Barnett (not saying he is will be him) a dude with size that can move and play run and rush passer. We will see when he gets here. I think he makes an instant impact

Holy crap Quay looks huge he can take on anyone as far as I can tell

He looks like he has an Aaron Donald type build. Not saying he'll be Aaron Donald by any means, just that his size shouldn't be an issue if he has the technique/motor/strength to go along with it.

Did good vs trey in circle of life. They said quay is one of strongest on team now since Rock came

Don't get me wrong, I think Rock was a good hire and will pay big dividends for us, but some of y'all seem to think it's easy to add phenomenal amounts of strength in 3-4 months. It just doesn't work that way.

Imo to add that much strength in that short of time it has to be either strength that you had at one time but quit working out and lost it, or you've never worked out much at all.

I think Quay had been motivated to get bigger and stronger since he has been on campus and what you see with him is 2 years of hard work, not 4 months.

Where Rock is gonna help is with having a good program AND accountability for the kids that aren't self motivated.

Tuttle and McKenzie should be the starters, hands down if both are healthy. From that pic McKenzie still looks way too small and needs to put back on some of that weight he had freshman year. Would be great to have Shy and K-Mac out there together so at least one of them is not drawing a double-team all the time. Vickers is never doubled when he's out there with one or the other and yet he rarely makes any plays.

Agreed. I think KMack needs to play at around 320. I'm sure his pec injury slowed his upper body development though.

Completely disagree. You can make huge strides in 4 months with the right strength program especially after having one that was a mess. I'm sure extra motivation to work harder that you get many more snaps this spring helps too but to say you can't make strong gains in 4 months is not true if the player is willing to work hard than he has in past.

once in my young life I put on 30lbs of muscle in a 3 mth period without any supplements. These kids have access to much more than I did.

Had you ever worked out seriously before putting on that 30 lbs??

Not that serious but it shows that length of time period doesn't matter. Also lets not act like being one of strongest on TN team is a huge feat this spring.

KMAC wasn't able to lift max. Quay is a DT so should be able to lift a lot. We don't exactly have a bunch of monsters like Bama. Trey Smith was instantly one of the strongest guys by just stepping on campus

You don't understand what I'm saying. Of a person has been lifting for years it isn't possible to put on 30lbs if muscle naturally in 3 months.

It's easy when you first start, and it's easy if you quit and just started back, but if you've been in lifting continuously for years you can't put on that much MUSCLE in 3 months without juice.

I'm SURE he has improved since Rock took over, just that all of his gains since he has been on campus aren't attributed to that.

Trey Smith is a freak though.

Also how'd you carry that 30lbs from an athletic standpoint? That's a lot of muscle to carry comfortably with no adjustment or conditioning problems just out of the blue.

It's possible but you'll be eating like 5000 calories a day for sure.

You think it's possible after you've already reached a certain level? And I'm talking MUSCLE, not just weight.

Yeah I've seen it. Nothing is ever all muscle though. But I've seen people put on serious mass on that much food. 5,000 calories per day is a lot of food.

I would be impressed if I saw someone that had been in a college S&C program for 2 years, even if it wasn't the best, put on 30 lbs of clean mass in 3 months. And remember we had a decent S&C coach Quays first year.

I just think he has been working hard and making gains since he has been on campus and this size/strength didn't happen overnight
