'17 NC DE Matthew Butler (UT Signee)

Talked about Muschamp being the only HC to visit...I'm thinking USCe here

Decision approaching for N.C. defensive lineman Matthew Butler

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Butler has been on official visits to Penn State, Duke and Texas A&M, and he attended games this season at all six of the schools he’s considering.
Tennessee is widely believed to be one of the favorites to land Butler, who most recently visited the Vols on Oct. 15 for their loss to top-ranked Alabama.
“I like Tennessee, as well as the other schools,” Butler told Stampini on Monday during preparation for Saturday’s Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. “I’m in contact with Coach Strip and Coach Thigpen, and (head) coach (Butch) Jones as well. There’s a need for D-linemen. There’s a want for me as a D-lineman.
“Each school enjoys my character — how I approach the game, how I approach adults, all of that type of stuff. They feel I can bring that to the program, as well as the other schools. … And also the aspect of me that’s a student of the game, they enjoy that, as well as the other schools.”
Butler said the game-day atmosphere at Tennessee during his visit with the Vols almost two months ago “was fantastic,” but that’s “not really what I’m looking for” in a college.

Butler said South Carolina coach Will Muschamp was the only head coach who visited him last week. Muschamp was joined by defensive line coach Lance Thompson in stopping at Butler’s school on Tuesday.
“With him, there’s a need for D-linemen, as well,” Butler said. “I feel like I can make an immediate impact at any school, whether it’s giving them those strong reps in practice and then down the stretch being even a guy just for third-quarter purposes — guys are tired, me get in there and just give them a rush. I can contribute anywhere, I really do believe.
“I can contribute at South Carolina, definitely. He likes the way I play. He’s very defensive-minded. I know that. You know that. Everybody knows that. He develops guys, so that’s his message to me, and I’m hearing it.”

Better hope not. As bad as we need DTs this would be yet another gut punch if we miss out on him.

Oh please. Do you really think he would impact the game next season anyway? Whatever happen to Andrew Butcher?? Has he even played a down yet?

We signed ONE DT in last year's class, as it stands right now we have Crosby and Bennett committed, and Bennett will start the season as a 17 year old. With Tuttle likely missing most if not all the 2017 season, I just wonder what the plan is. The attempt to play DEs at DT failed

Hopefully we have Vickers, McKenzie, Alexis Johnson, Crosby, and Bennett plus Butler just has to add 30 pounds, which may be able to be done. I also imagine that if we "let go" the Gaddy bros because we want slimmer DT's then Shoop had some guys in mind he wanted

Giving up on Picou?

I thought Kyle Phillips and Kongbo did ok. They are not top 2 material but could provide decent depth. I think that we do also need both at DE too, so we definitely need to develop more depth at DT.

There's still time obviously, but if he didn't make a splash at DT this year, I just don't see him getting in the rotation

Do we give up on redshirt freshman because they didn't splash? IMO that is a little too quick on the trigger.

According to RC, the Gaddys had "significant" academic issues. Otherwise I doubt we would have parted ways.

Sounds like he has bought into Muschamp and is USCe bound.
