'17 NC LB Justin Foster

This gets overstated way too much. I don't see anyone really saying he sucks or we never wanted him. They just speculate that he may be a little slow at LB and may grow into a DE when we emphasize speed at LB. If he wants to play LB, then we may not be the best fit. That is hardly the same as he isn't good and we don't want him. We have been recruiting this kid for a long time, so I am guessing the coaches wouldn't be doing so if he wasn't good.

My thing is I wouldn't take just one guys opinion on him. Callahan hasn't heard it, CU 247 hasn't, now this guy may have the inside info or just repeating someone's opinion around CU. I would understand the angst if all the Tn sites were reporting it or heck, even if all the CU sites were. I'd say Tn still has a good shot here. He obviously liked Tn to have them as his leader for so long and I don't believe he has stated anyone else as his leader? If he has, I apologize.

I also tend to question the talk that seems to think he all a sudden became too slow to play LB in the last week. As you mentioned we've been recruiting him for a long time.

I believe quotes from Foster himself said that we wanted him to rush the passer on passing downs. It is just logical to think that a guy who is 245 in high school will gain some muscle weight in a college strength and conditioning program. We won't be playing a 260 pound LB in this scheme and haven't in what I can remember. These are suited for the 3-4.

With the way our recruiting has been going against Clemson, I think it's easy to see why folks could see this one going sideways at anytime.

Maybe he's carrying 10-15 lbs of bad weight and would be playing closer to 230-235 in college?

The weight on his original VN profile was at 225. Rivals has him at 250. I can tell you that we won't be playing anyone strictly at LB at 250-260. If he plays LB, he will be in the Maggitt role where he is rushing the passer on 3rd down. My guess is his addition of weight "could" have changed things.

Anything else in the fort?

"As I said earlier, calling around to try and get a better feel on that one. I know some around him think the Vols are sliding some, but I haven't made all my calls. Some different factors depending on different people you talk to right now."

He doesn't fit size wise as a outside lb for Tennessee. The kid will be playing with his hand in the dirt with either Clemson or Tennessee.

Sounds like what he is hearing from his calls so far is not encouraging.

This one could be for sure but regardless you need to show some consistency in your convictions. I like to think I have when it comes to this subject but you are jumping all across the line to criticize

Damn.... You know it's bad when Bruin even calls you out... What a sad life.. LOL

He didn't really fit our Defense. We just want the star power

I would have to disagree. He was heavily recruited by the staff. It's funny, whenever a recruit starts to trend another direction people on here SAY "he doesn't fit our system". Hence, Jacob Phillips.....

I know Foster has said he wants to play LB in college. He didn't seem put off by the idea of rushing the QB off the edge on 3rd down. Has he been quoted saying he only wants to play OLB? If not, at 6'3-6'4 235-250, I'd think MLB also has him at LB as he suggested he'd prefer. I don't really get how he doesn't "fit" our defense.
