'17 NC LB Justin Foster

This one could be for sure but regardless you need to show some consistency in your convictions. I like to think I have when it comes to this subject but you are jumping all across the line to criticize

History shows current commit spots are anything but secure. Of course I'd love to see that change. As of now I don't have any reason to think the staff won't clear room as needed if better talent wants in. Foster is better talent.

Now if the 23 committed sign, I'd applaud the new recruiting method. Might be painful this year, but it would be a benefit shortly.

As I said. I've got no reason to think that is what is playing out currently.

I think Butch is too honest with recruits. Other programs seem to tell them what they want to hear. If they say I want to play LB coach says sure that's your position and then when they get on campus they put them where they want to. Butch seems to say we really see you as a DE and that's where we'll put you if you sign with us.

I could see that happening in some situations. In this situation per the recruits quotes it sounded like UT was recruiting him at LB, his favored position.

If you believe some on here, you'd think Butch is Satan when it comes to recruiting.

I'm glad we have an honest man and not a scum bag for a head coach

I would have more respect for a coach who was completely honest with me and that tried to recruit me without having to commit NCAA Violations to get my signature. Dabo is just a horses ass who uses any dirty tastic to get recruits. He can easily sell recent success but other than that, what's he going to sell? Come play in the toughest best conference which is the ACC? Clemson ain't no where near the program Tennessee is.

Just curious, how do you know how Dabo recruits and what he tells these kids? What dirty tactics do you have first hand knowledge of?

When he was 260 pounds he struggled mightily at camps trying to be a LB, I'm not sure after he slimmed down to 245 if that helped any.

He even said in interviews that Clemscum saw him as a DE, whereas UT was trying to sell him on being a LB hybrid that could be a third down pass rusher. FWIW The DC at USCjr (Robinson) was not sold on him at all, and thought he was significantly overrated as a LB since he struggles in coverage.

This is one I'm not concerned about missing on.

He's never going to be able to keep his weight down in a college strength program and it seems he was going to play a hybrid role, in which case we already have Bembry who is more athletic IMO.

This will only suck for those of us hoping to get a boost in the recruiting rankings.

I remember reading that this kid looked slow in camp settings. Our coaches are putting a premium on speed and athleticism, especially on defense. They want linebackers that can run and cover. If Foster insists on staying at LB he wouldn't be a fit here. Shoop made the comment in an interview that even his DT's need to be able to run.

10 years ago sure. But that's simply not true anymore, at all.

Recent success is the only thing they got going for them right now. Having the advantage playing in the ACC helps them tremendously with as many wins as they've had the last several years. Tennessee did have to go through the Dooley years that set us way back until Butch came and finally brought us back to prominence. Kids these days just want to hop on the bandwagon with whoever is winning the most.

Digging around on Foster. I knew Clemson had started pressing hard for him after he felt they weren't coming after him as hard as he expected in the spring. He had told some close to him the Vols were the program recruiting him the hardest.

Now, I've talked to Paul Strelow, who reported this from our Clemson site and he's someone that's really good on the Clemson beat.

I haven't had the time to check on Foster specifically today but I will be making some calls.

When I last spoke to some people about two weeks ago the Vols were still very much in the picture. I'll try and find out by Inside the Fort tonight what the deal is.

Exactly right. Kids don't care about past success. It is all about the here and now.

Well, started at the last page to go backwards for an update and only see he sucks, never wanted him anyway, he's overrated, other coaches lied to him, our coaches make the pope look like a sinner, etc. I can only think an update saying not good news? Did he commit somewhere? It's not in the name title. If not, why not wait to bash the kid After he commits somewhere. Recruits do read boards...

I'm not bashing him. He's always been one of the best LBs I thought we could get this year.

You're not wrong, but you suck as a rival poster.

This gets overstated way too much. I don't see anyone really saying he sucks or we never wanted him. They just speculate that he may be a little slow at LB and may grow into a DE when we emphasize speed at LB. If he wants to play LB, then we may not be the best fit. That is hardly the same as he isn't good and we don't want him. We have been recruiting this kid for a long time, so I am guessing the coaches wouldn't be doing so if he wasn't good.

I also tend to question the talk that seems to think he all a sudden became too slow to play LB in the last week. As you mentioned we've been recruiting him for a long time.
