'17 NC LB Justin Foster

Meh sister. Unless they are super close thats not an issue.

Heck Todd Kellys sister went to Bama. Andrew Butchers went to Ole Miss.

I think most little brothers would prefer to get away from their older sister so it might actually help us :)

JJ sister at Bama

I knew this would be asked. My understanding is that Austin was held back at some point in school, probably for athletic reasons.

You are correct. That is happening with a lot of athletes these days. Notice how big a deal is being made of a senior being only 17 these days. Used to all of us were about 17 as HS seniors.

How was his Twin a freshman in college if he was a senior in HS?

Was one born before midnight of the cut off date and the other after midnight!?!?

I've always wondered how that would work.

Boys are more likely to be held back a grade. Could be that.

We missed on AN because of a couple of reasons.

His mom worked at fed ex. He got homesick easy.

Yep, reasons why it isn't guaranteed that a guy will go where his sibling is in school. UT had some things going for it with the sister and with Austin's private school friends. But Mom and home won out...until he transferred.

Really don't have much to contribute here other than Clemson feels pretty good with him, much like I'm sure Tenn does.

Figured I'd stop in here early and will pass along anything that develops on our end.

What are you hearing on your end about Tee and Amari?

Clemson expects Amari to be committed by this time next month. Really anyone's guess as to how that affects Tee, if at all.

My guess is that Tee's recruitment goes the distance but he ends up a Vol.

In order to not hijack this thread, check out my expanded thoughts in the Amari thread on Clemson's WR situation. I feel there's a very good chance Tenn and Clemson's hits and misses could be directly correlated for the 2017 WR recruiting class.

Underclassman Eval

STRENGTHS: Rangy athlete with the speed to play sideline to sideline. Reads quickly, has an explosive first step and takes solid angles. Strong at the point of attack and has a knack for slipping blocks. Drops smoothly in coverage and has a closing burst. Strong tackler who wraps effectively.

AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Will need to fill out his frame. Can get overwhelmed by bigger blockers in a phone booth.

BOTTOM LINE: Foster very good size, speed and athleticism for the linebacker position. With added bulk, he has the potential to develop into a complete, playmaking 'backer.

This kid is #2 on my wishlist of 2017 prospects outside the state of Tennessee after Gibbs. He's the replacement to JRM.

Sounds like he's not planning to make a decision any time soon.

“I’ve been thinking about narrowing it down to about eight schools," Foster said. "I’m thinking about releasing that around when the high school season starts in August. It’ll be eight to ten schools. I’ll probably schedule my official visits for after the season. My final decision will probably come later on.”

Justin Foster fell to #64 in 247's updated ranking (from the mid-30s). Part of me wonders if he is a bit of a tweener, as a previous poster alluded to....

I wonder if UT would still want him if he outgrows the LB position? He might be a better fit for a 3-4 style defense. This is pure speculation on my part, for those wondering.

Probably right here. He's bigger than Austin Smith was and he's already eaten himself into a defensive end.

“i think his name is larry scott, is the one i talk to now,” he added, referring to tennessee’s new tight ends coach. “i’ve talked with him a good little bit. I was talking with him for the last couple days this week, and we were just talking about getting back up there soon and trying to get back onto campus and everything.

“he was just saying that he had just gotten there, and i was the first person he saw on film and stuff, and they told him that he needs to recruit me pretty hard.”

foster said he’s still interested in tennessee, but he needs to “keep building the relationship” with scott.

“i talked to (elder) a good little bit, and he was recruiting me pretty hard while he was there,” foster said. “and when he left, it kind of fell off with tennessee for a while, i guess until they got new coaches in and stuff.

“but i would probably say i’ll get back up there and keep building the relationship with the coach i’m talking to now and see how it goes from there. But i pretty much am still interested in tennessee.

“i would say, when i went up there, i liked their campus a lot. The coaches, i loved the coaches, the atmosphere, the people up there. And the game atmosphere is crazy. Once you go there for a game and stuff, and you get good with the coaches at tennessee, you start to kind of like it a lot.”

Thinks his name is Larry Scott. Obviously we need to reach out more to him.

Hopefully it's just the fact that he talks to so many coaches. He has offers from 20 or so schools and they all likely want him.

At least he remembered his name.

linebacker justin foster (shelby, n.c./crest) said he has five schools “up there” including clemson (sister goes there), n.c. State, tennessee, georgia and south carolina.

Foster, who remains relatively open, also likes virginia tech’s engineering program, his desired major, and has told other recruits he’s leaning that way.

The crystal ball reads 57-percent for clemson, 29-percent for tennessee and 14-percent for north carolina.

Foster, ranked as the nation’s no. 3 outside linebacker, said he plans to visit kentucky, georgia and alabama this spring.

The darkhorse is stanford, a spot he plans to visit this summer.

“I haven’t exactly planned a specific date but I’m going to get out to Tennessee, Georgia, and Virginia," he said. "I visited N.C. State this past Saturday. I was at Kentucky for the LSU game. I’ve been down to South Carolina and Clemson recently. I’ve visited Virginia Tech since the new staff came in. I also went to Alabama and North Carolina.”
