"I've been here and done and went through and seen everything on the campus," Foster said. "Today I went to the engineering building because a big thing in committing to a school is being able to major in engineering so they set up a tour for me."
Tennessee has more than a few players that have walked through the doors of the engineering school over the years. Obviously, quarterback Josh Dobbs stands out in that area with the current team and it gives Foster a good feel for the potential balance of education and football.
"If he's the starting quarterback and he can do aerospace engineering and they make time for you to balance it," Foster said. "Time management is big, but if the quarterback can do it then I can do it."
This trip to Tennessee also was a chance to familiarize himself with new defensive coordinator Bob Shoop and how the new defensive boss sees Foster fitting into the scheme in Knoxville.
"I had spoken to him a few times when he was at Penn State, but then he went off the grid for a little while," Foster said. "This is the first time in meeting him face to face and it went good. Just seeing where I'd fit into his defense. He said like a middle linebacker on first and second down and then rush the quarterback off the edge on third down."
Ranked as one of the top linebackers in the country and the top overall player in the Tar Heel state, it's easy to see why Foster has so many top programs after him. He really likes Tennessee, but does he feel like he is a top priority for Butch Jones and his staff?
"Oh yes," Foster said. "I'll be back to visit down before I start to narrow it down even more. It's a family environment and the coaches are laid back and cool. The day that coach Scott got here, he came over to North Carolina and talk with me and introduced himself. He wanted to get me up here and we have a good relationship. Coach Jones and I talk a lot. Everything is going good and it's a good environment. I just like the area."
As for a decision, Foster isn't sure when he'll commit or if he'll enroll early. But if the latter is to happen, then a decision will come sooner than later.
"At my school, I have to choose what school I'm going to before August 1st," Foster said. "If I can make that decision then I'll enroll early."
