your right. I don't follow this recruiting stuff very much. Its too dynamic and the recruiting season runs too long for me.

BUT, about Christmas, I take a look at and see what the class will shape up to be. Really disappointed in this class. Too short on elite type players. Our recruiting still not where it needs to be. Appears to me Georgia and Carolina really picking it up recruiting wise so that will make up for their coaching weaknesses.

Just reading people I trust a lot and it appears we are really finished with recruiting. Want a RB and another corner type player. Would take an elite player that might want to come but none of those look interested in us.

The X factor could be new staff members. They might have a stud they could bring along with them BUT, no one I've talked to believes those being considered have a stud to drag along..

I wish some of those new staffers were elite recruiters.

LoL, if I or one of the "negavols" posted this, an attack would soon follow. It's been a disappointment since spring.

But it's only December.....

And in a short 9 days, it will only be January. Still plenty of time :)

Honestly, I think we're finishing up, also, but will still hold out hope for a couple of late surprises, to the good.

It's not what gets said so much as the manner in which it's said. You run into every thread with "he gone" and it gets old. That stuff is totally different than what Larry has posted here.

Everyone knows this class hasn't been what we had hoped. LWS isn't saying anything that the board doesn't already know. You and the other negavols don't get attacked for speaking truth. You get attacked for the repetitiveness and the manner in which you complain/spread negativity constantly.

Didn't watch the bowl game between Idaho/Colorado State but the final score and most notably the PASSING YARDAGE? :yuck: Idaho's stud WR went up a round yesterday. Not a grand day on Terry Fair's resume...still hope we hire him.

Goes to show that it isn't always on the coaches. Teams game plan and scheme, but the players have to execute the game plan. Doesn't always workout as planned as we all know.

Kevin Steele has rebounded from the debacle against West Virginia. I don't think that you judge someone by one game.

I thought Hoke was a very good recruiter? We don't know how elite Terry can be, but I am thinking he would have a very good sell being a former VFL that is now a coach at his alma mater.

Hoke is a very good recruiter but his base is the mid-west and north east. where his strengths are. Just hard to pull elite players in volume from up there. I'm more interested in elite recruiters familiar with the southeast.

Fair might end up great. Just not enough history to know. There were positive things I heard while he was here as GA. communicated very well with parents on their visits. Might end up elite..

If we are going to get back to top levels though, need more elite recruiters that can go get elite players. like 2002 when we snatched 10 of the top 100.

Agree, no doubt!

But you remember that game...like you did Steele's. This was nowhere near that, but another footnote is Idaho is going back down to FCS.

A difference is that Fair is only the position coach and not the coordinator. I wouldn't waste a position coach on defensive backs anyway. Shoop is probably better at it than anyone we could hire. A grad assistant should take over for Martinez and save that job for another position coach. I think the whole defensive staff except Shoop will be gone.

If we don't have a DB's coach it will be the theme of this board next year...ala QB coach. :)

Helfrich, Hoke and Fair seem to be the targets that many are talking about. those three names have been discussed since the end of the season and none have gotten snatched up by anyone else. Makes it seem very likely..

No one 100% knows even though some statements I make from time to time could be interpreted that way. Its easy in making passing comments to say something that appears 100%.

You think if Helfrich is hired would he be allowed to have say in any offensive staff changes? OLine and WR in particular..

Really need Fair to come in and coach the DB's up but also as a recruiter..I don't like GA's in positions like that..If Butch makes the right hires we won't run out of coaching positions to need a GA to coach up a huge area of concern for us. If Debord stays on let him coach the Oline, get rid of Mahoney then that opens up a spot for Helfrich and he will also be QB Coach. Prefer Debord retire then hire a really good OLine coach. But will be curious how things play out once our Bowl game is over. Fully expect 3-5 coaching changes plus S&C..

Can he play corner? And are we in this at all? (The only recruitment I've really kept up with is akers, sorry.)

We're in his top 5 right now but we offered so late. I think we have a better shot at either Etienne or Felix. Also, Damon Williams is another one I think we have a better shot at getting.

Just in the last few weeks Lovett has picked up offers from Maryland, Michigan State, Tennessee, UCF and Baylor. Seems like he could be a solid #3 RB in the '17 class.

LWS called this a few days ago, interesting to see if it plays out.

It's beginning to begin to look more like we would take Lovett now because most of our other choices are going elsewhere. That's if we take another RB in which I think we would.

However, that would place us at 27 commits so if CBJ wanted to pull a stunner on NSD we would have to let another commit or 2 go elsewhere.

Guy has long legs...I would give him a shot at RB for a week and then move him to slot :)
