If Akers was still uncommitted, who visits him at the end of a dead period...Gillespie or Mahoney? Gillespie 100%. The staff must feel their best shot to land a 3rd RB is with Lovett and is why Gillespie is there to show him the love first. I'm sure Gillespie will see Etienne at some point, but that's not the order of importance it seems.

I agree that there could be some other reason, but Gillespie being in charge of NJ and Mahoney in charge of Louisiana isn't the reason.

We don't recruit too many kids from NJ and Louisiana and Mississippi have traditionally been regions Gillespie has been in charge of.

So if we're sending an OL coach who likely won't be employed by UT a month from now to visit a RB in our RB coach's territory, it's probably a decent indicator of how our staff feels about our chances there.


What we don't know is if Gillespie is visiting Lovett sooner than Jordan because he's a higher priority or for some other reason.

I get what you're saying, but couldn't you argue that Gillespie is targeting Lovett first to just make sure he sets up an OV with the Vols in the next few weeks? We've seen Butch and Co. set up in-home visits with top targets AFTER their OV is over.

Maybe Gillespie visits Etienne with Butch the day before he going to commit. Not saying you're wrong, but there are also multiple points importance. It's not like coming out of a dead period is something so significant that it is easily the most important time to visit.

I did like your point about Wells visiting Ray, while Mahoney is visiting Etienne, though.

If the staff felt we had a chance with Etienne, they'd either send someone likely to be on the staff next year to meet with him or send one of our better recruiters like Thig, Scott, or Azzani.

On a related topic, it was mentioned on another site, that Doug Mathews said we probably take up to 3 blue shirts in this class. Do you think that's accurate and isn't 3 a really big number to take away from next year?

I think it depends on the quality of guys we can add. If we are able to get a mixture of Ray, Conliffe, Sterling, Etienne, and so on then it would make sense to take the ones we could now. However, I do not think we should be taking many more chances on lower guys and impacting next year's numbers. The 2017 class is shaping up to be one of our best chances to have an amazing class with a lot of in-state, Vol friendly talent. It may be a class built on quality, not numbers.

Two CBs today to Baylor, wonder if we cooled on this kid because of the interest from Devin Barrett or maybe he knows he can play immediately at Baylor.

Callahan gave an update. Kid isn't coming here. Said he's still fully committed but keeping options open. Said it would take a lot for him to flip anywhere. He's also visiting Indiana. He's just using his trips.

Just taking trips to take trips does not equal Indiana and UT. Might be very little chance he ends up at UT. But it is obv he has concerns about the OC and could end up somewhere besides Auburn.

He ellimated us last week or perhaps the other way around but he isn't visiting
