'17 TN ATH Jacoby Stevens (LSU commit)

Look, Stevens is an elite recruit who moved to Tennessee from Louisiana. So, the instate thing is not as big of a deal to him and he apparently grew up loving LSU. But, recruiting in the big boy game requires going up against the elite programs and it is rarely clear early on with some of the biggest recruits. Here, we have Shoop who has recruited him for a while. We have Butch who has done well in Rutherford County so far. We also have a lot of excitement. If UT turns the corner and is competing in the national level, we probably land some of these guys. If we don't, Butch has proven he still can land elite talent but this class will not be the "legendary" class it has been promised to be. This season is going to play a huge role in how we do recruiting and it is far too early to get too excite or too down with the news from these types of players. Personally, I think UT is going to compete for the East and the SEC and should have an opportunity to get into the playoffs. If that happens, Stevens and some other guys get on board.

TIFWIW, but someone close to Oakland Football said he loves LSU, but is afraid Les Miles is on borrowed time. Says Stevens has bonded with Kirby Smart and is really high on GA right now. There is lots of time left for this one to play out.

We just landed Nigel Warrior and Tyler Byrd. Two top 100 players at safety.

We already have TK, Evan Berry and Rsoph Rashaun Gaulden. And Micah Abernathy.

Even if we don't get Gibbs... when would Stevens get to start??
Same thing for Gibbs.

Warrior and Byrd as rs sophmores are a formidable tandem at Safety.

Pretty sure Gibbs will play the star position.

I can but apparently you cannot. He said he lived there in his early years. Also, as you can see, I never said you said he was born here. However, you are the one that that said posters were spewing "BS" and didn't know what they were talking about. Turns out it's you who is the ignorant one. Way to get all pissy at someone who didn't insult you at all in my response.

The quote you used explicitly says "I spent most of my younger years growing up during the SUMMER in LA." That's not living his early years there, that's summers spent there. I don't care either way but don't post a quote to support your stance and then blatantly misread that quote.

You are kidding right?

This logic is how you end up with a team full of underclassmen such as 2013-2014. The opposite logic is how you end up like Bama

So how does this work again?

Do you not let the players sort this out on the field? Especially elite players at that.

And they aren't going to redshirt. They'll play in reserve roles this year. Plus they'll be on special teams.

These kids now days aren't loyal like that anymore. My wife took my son and nephew to the Alabama game a few years back and the boys came back bama fans. It's all about what have you done lately. If you look at all the kids that have left the state to go to other schools over the years it's sad. Like kbvol said, we'll be fine without them but it sure would be nice to see the best football players from Tennessee playing for Tennessee

Anybody that gives a kid grief because he wants to get out of the state he has grown up in and experience another state is simply ignorant. I will never give a TN kid grief for going to another state to pursue their education.
Now if they want to go to UT and become folk heroes as they create a dynasty...that's cool too.

I never heard him say he moved from there but multiple people/articles have said it that way. We at least know he split time between the two in his younger years as he says and called it "growing up there."So that's still living there some, calls it home, and family is from there. That means he's not a typical TN hometown recruit. That was the point, as one poster said he didn't know where the LA stuff was coming from. I just shared the article.
So actually you blatantly missed the point, but not an opportunity to find something to b!tch about and try to call someone out. It's not surprising coming from you, as it seems that's the only time you post. That's why I normally just skip past your posts. You're welcome to do the same.

I may very well be wrong...the point is dont get hung up on where a recruit lives, its what you want to be a part of regardless. I lived in 5 states growing up and i chose ultimately to come here! Thats who we want and that is who we will get!

I think this argument that comes up over instate talent is really no argument at all. Just a misunderstanding of the other side. We all love in state talent and seeing top Tennessee talent stay home. It doesn't mean we don't want the most elite nationwide to commit here as well....and even over lesser talented instate recruits. There is also no denying that having a lot of elite instate talent, that is usually easier to recruit, makes the over all class easier to complete. So when we don't get that instate talent that is supposed to help us it hurts in two ways but isn't meant to imply that we don't want the most talented guys no matter where they are from.

I find it ironic that we seemingly trail for the number one kid in this class in state, yet we are at least in the running or in good position for the number one player in multiple other states... North Carolina, Georgia, and tentatively Michigan. Am I missing any?
