'17 TN LB Jacob Phillips

Hurd did no such thing @ all but also very few rom Beech still associate with Hurd. If it remember correctly he came after Hurd was gone. I can't seem to remember Jacob there then.

True or false ...

UT described that Phillips would be a DE in our scheme and this was not desired, making no difference who offered, when offered, stopped recruiting, restarted recruiting, or not. OU said he can play LB and that was it.

We have a great lb class probably our strongest position in the class so i dont see the problem. If he was from Mississippi no one would care.

Blew two straight MLB recruitments in back to back years apparently. Dodson last year ended up pretty good and thinking Kirkland is more suited for WIll and not Mike. He struggles getting team lined up to me.

How can you tell? He missed over half of this season and was rusty when he finally returned. I don't believe he was 100% until the bowl game, which was also true for several other guys on defense, and the defense was much better than it had been during the back half of the season.

I do wish we, as a program, commanded the kind of respect that LSU does with in state kids that grew up as fans. Seems they can wait until the day before signing day to offer and still get who they want.

Thig and Butch misses her. Like Dodson last year. IMO the reset after next season will do a lot more good then bad. Butch has burned a lot of bridges in Memphis too.

Give it 50 years of amazing in state talent and we may get there.

Impossible to not burn bridges when you recruit at a high level, just have to hope you dont burn the wrong ones.

Respectfully disagree. Phillips is the 8th ranked ILB in the country and would be our 4th highest rated player if he was in this class. He's an outstanding recruit no matter where he's from. The fact that he's in our backyard and evidently would've come here had we recruited him hard does make it worse imo.

I think this is because of the growth Tennessee has had, especially in the midstate area. Even if the kids have spent most of their lives here, most parents and their peers and the community hasn't. Whereas in LA the whole families have been there forever so the pressure to stay in state is a little more.

I'll say this and then be done with this because its all stupid, and rumors or lies started by UT fans. We do not steer any kid an which a way. Ppl are still talking about our camp. Do you think UT can stand someone up? Guys Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU, UGA, Memphis, SCe, USC, Miss St, Ole Miss were a few to name were there. You explain to me who it hurt us or them? Last who does Chandler train with? You have to stop listening to make believe stories of the fake victimized message board world who think someone is against them. UT could've had Jacob it's all their fault, and no don't blame Thig for this. He's the 1 who offered early.

So you get the coach bashing out of your system ON THIS BOARD...then you're Switzerland? :)

Yall worry about the backyard ill worry about everybody else's yards. There is a reason the coaches have territories. I guess it would be better if they just had TN counties instead?

Sounds so Dooleyish with the recruiting rank to match. Who were they pursuing over him?
I think you're right about the Dooley thing. They didn't want to go the Dooley way and sign slow linebackers. "Propst, Christian Harris, Etc." Part of the reason they choose DKjr over Cherry. Cherry wasn't fluid in coverage and lacked side to side speed.

This staff didn't pursue the Clemson LB/DE for the same reason. Leb is just ******** to *****.

How many current LBs do we have on roster than who weigh more than Phillips?

Are we crossing the line into the argument that what's said on this board does/doesn't affect recruiting? :)

Every coach, including Butch, says and has said that "putting a fence around the state" is paramount and priority number 1 in recruiting. In this case, Nashville is the most important recruiting territory in the state and Butch is here all the time.

But even beyond that, this kid a stud. No staff is gonna be perfect in recruiting, I get that, but given how good he appears to be at a position of need for us, he sure looks like one who got away.

If you really do have these kid's best interest in mind then, you need to stay off the forums and just do your job. You sound very butt hurt.

Butch has burned plenty of bridges with the high amount recruits he "processes". He burned some bridges in Memphis before ever taking the UT job

That fence around the state crap is to appease the fans.

What a coach should say: I dont care where you live, we will be the best and if you are the best im coming for you...im breaking down fences to recruit the best!...im looking for volunteers to battle for Tennessee!
