It was an extremely fun night," Phillips remembered this past Sunday at the Grind Time TN 7-on-7 tryouts in Franklin, Tenn. "It was shocking and I was just really happy about it. Ole Miss was the first to offer me and then Tennessee offered like an hour later."

"I liked it a lot at Tennessee," Phillips said. "I actually have a friend who's going there, Riley Lovingood, and he escorted me around and showed me everything.

"It was different than all the other schools because I knew a bunch of people that were up there and on the the team and it was a night game so that was cool. It was packed and sold out. It was a lot of fun."

"Just seeing the recruiting class this year, they were No. 5, and they won a bowl game last season so I feel like they are going to be competing for a national championship pretty soon," Phillips said.

Chris Smith of Vandy 247 really seems to think Philips will end up at Vandy. It's a good thing Chris Smith just reports his dreams

He's got to pick a few instate kids to end up at Vandy. If he didn't, the natives would be upset. That said, I hope he's wrong on this one. Need this kid in Orange.

Butch has done a good job of establishing a presence at Beech. If we keep improving on the field, this kid will be a Vol.

Vandy reporter is a moron. Even if any decent prospects were considering Vandy, that likely will change after they get embarrassed by every team on their schedule. They may actually win versus Austin Peay. Mason get canned this year and Vandy anchors down to the bottom of the SEC like the pieces of trash they are.

chris smith thinks everyone is considering Vandy though. He seriously makes it sound like everyone is a Vandy lock to the 10 fans on VU247. After they whiffed on about 15 RBs for the 2015 cycle they started calling him out on it. They are getting the scraps from the mid state and it will continue for however long UT says it will haha

St louis top defense #12

performance: Numbers-wise, it was a small linebacker group with only about a dozen performers, and phillips was physically the most impressive of the bunch. Looking bigger than his listed 218 pounds, the rising junior is a thickly-built 6-foot-3 linebacker who could potentially grow into a guy who has his hand in the ground in college. What stood out most about phillips, though, was how easily he glides across the field at that size. He needs to improve his change of direction quickness, but his straight-line speed is very impressive and he was fundamentally solid throughout drill work.

For those who didn't notice, Jacob Phillips is no longer at Beech High School. He's now at East Nashville Magnet.

I heard that he was wanting more preferential treatment than the Beech coaches were willing to give. I heard it from someone on the BHS staff so TIFWIW.

That is a very ambiguous statement. Preferential treatment towards what?

I'm not really sure. His statement was vague. Being that it was from faculty at BHS, there could've been hurt feelings. I don't know much about East Nashville Magnet but any magnet school should be an upgrade academically.

He probably preferred more PT he had fallen on the Beech depth chart at TE and LB.

This kid holds some major offers and is being recruited hard by Oklahoma. Just got invited to 5* Challenge.
