'17 TN OL/DT Trey Smith (UT commit 12/6/2016)

Beating two playoff teams for arguably the #1 recruit in the nation will be a good start for Butch to regain the fanbases' confidence.

No offense, but IMO the fanbase should expect to get an instate kid whose sister works for the program. Not require it to have confidence in the coaching staff.

An OOS state stud? Yes. Not so much here.

So Tuttle had a "huge game" vs VaTech, in part because KMac was doubled allowing Shy to beat his man one on one? Lol. You sure about that?

Tuttle had 2 assisted tackles vs the Hokies. No solo tackles, no tfls, no sacks. Pick another example.

Nb4 you pull the "you don't know, understand the nuance of playing DT and tackles/tfls/sacks aren't that important" card.

And I don't think KMac "sucks". I think he's been a bit of a disappointment thus far given his billing and hype......and I certainly don't think opposing offenses went into games vs Tennessee this year scheming to account for KMac and trying to neutralize him with consistent double teams. Barnett was the ONLY player on our defense that demanded extra planning and attention from opposing offenses.

anyone who watched the VaTech game knows Tuttle had a big game. You're too stupid to argue with. Good night

Sooo if his mind was already made up before the Tennessee visit, isn't that usually a bad indication that he's going elsewhere?

I guess if you slant towards the negative you'll win either way ~

He commits to us? He's instate. We should expect it.

He doesn't? Our coaching staff sucks.

I want an announcement of him sitting in class, or locker room, and someone walk up to him and say, "where are the hats?" Then Trey will then turn around with a Tennessee Jersey on under his jacket and be like "hats what do you mean hats?"

If other schools (not Tennessee) knew where he was going, I do not think they would waste their time visiting him again tomorrow.

I do think he will choose Tennessee, but he at the very least has done a good job of making other teams feel they have a good shot.

I am a little nervous, because like someone else said, if he chooses another school, this place will go crazy.

No doubt. The perception will be strong either way with the outcome of this recruitment. I think we'll have a strong close to this class if Trey comes on board.

"Hanging out with Jack Jones, Coleman Thomas, Jashon (Robertson) and all of the o-lineman," Smith said. "I'm cool with everybody. It's cool to see Jarrett (Guarantano) and it was the first time to spend the weekend with him. It was cool chilling with him."

"Just a lot of time spent with the players and it was a good time. I'm a really big priority to Tennessee and they just really need me."

"To be honest I've been recruited by so many people," Smith said. "When it first started it was Strip(ling) and then it was Mahoney. Then coach Jones himself and coach Thigpen is on me all the time. Just the entire staff. They roll out the red-carpet no doubt. It was ridiculous."

"The power of being an in-state guy," Smith said. "Tennessee has definite power. It's really obvious across the country. They are a global brand and they are branding themselves well. Being in-state and the doors and opportunities that offers to have job opportunities is tremendous."

Smith made the trip to Knoxville with his decision all but complete. It was the icing on his recruitment. That doesn't mean he'll stay in state, but the hay is in the barn. Now it's about finalizing how to alert each staff.
"I'm pretty much done," Smith said. "I haven't decided how or when I'll inform the coaches at each school."

I am usually optimistic but this is a good kid who is having a good time. I think he is going to OSU. I wonder if he will tell the other two tomorrow and the last one in is who he will be telling he is coming. Interested to see who comes in last. If it isn't OSU, we will probably know once Urban leaves because he loves to ruin kids announcements when not for his team. Hope Trey doesn't let him know regardless but that won't happen.

I'm sure it would. But nothing is gonna top the TH commitment for me.

I hope he tells Meyer and Saban to stay home and not bother visiting him. :crossfingers:

I think I saw where someone said TN coaches are last.
